Re: Farmall H Question
Howard, My experience has been 2-14's like a No. 8 and a 7 or 8 ft. drag disc. H's were either gasoline or distillate, no diesels OEM. The only common problem I've seen is worn front end parts causing shimmy in road gear (I think this applies to all old tractors). As far as online manuals, I can't answer this, but I'm sure someone can. John

Re: Farmall H Question
The H was a great tractor in it's day. It is generally considered a 2 bottom plow tractor. We pulled 2 - 14's with ours. There are tons of them out there and parts are reasonable. The wide front end and 3 point also make it desireable. I don't think Rudi has anything on the manual site for the H but there is a lot of knowledge about them on many IH forums.

Re: Farmall H Question
TW Cook has a lot of information on his H site. It has been there a long time so a lot of the external links are out of date.

thank you for the replies
would a 42 have a similar charging system to a cub ?
i.e. 6v pos ground/ or could it have been changed over to 12 V //
it does have a magneto ign on it
also are there implements made for the H

Re: Farmall H Question
Actually I do have a few manuals for the M-MV. Just not on the server at the moment. Looks like that other site might be pretty useful.

Re: Farmall H Question
I have a 40 Model H. Fun tractor. My is narrow front. Sure would like to have a wide front!
I was able to find manuals on-line. And as John said, the biggest problem mine had was front wheel shimmy in road gear. A new gear in the steering box solved that problem.

**Edit** To correct year. Oops.

Re: Farmall H Question

Curious what an H is worth these days. A "friend of a friend" has one, I have not gone to see it yet, but it's been outside for a while, supposedly was running 3 years ago, has tin can over muffler, engine turns over, and it has a Farmall loader to match. Being told the tires are usable, and the owner knows of no major problems. I have met the guy a few years ago and I believe he would be honest to my friend about it. Anybody can give me an idea what kind of range we're looking at ?

Re: Farmall H Question
Without the benefit of a picture, I'm gonna say $500-$750...Call if what you will, but as it sits it's a non-running tractor. Loader would add little, if any value.
Of course...I paid twice that for a non runnin' M...wanted it real bad and it was 6 miles from the house. I figured the ol' gal had sit out long enough and I gave the man his askin' price and hauled her home a happy man.

Re: Farmall H Question
Tractor Supply( which I don't usually recommend for anything) has the I & T Shop Manual(or can order it)
It is IH-8 , covers several letter series tractors INCLUDING the Cub(prior to 1957). Not as good as the IH Blue Ribbon Shop Manual but is adequate. just myMHO, your results may vary.

Re: Farmall H Question
How much is an "H" worth? In this area, central Missouri, $800- to $1000- for one in field ready work condition.
If you are going to purchase a tractor, you are better off spending a few dollars more for one in running, ready to work condition.
