Cub Splitting Stand - Front Stand Finished (update)
Folks,
I, like Gary Boutwell, was not happy with the Cub Splitting Stands that I had, so I started with his great How To http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=37936 and added my own twist to it and ended up with this very mobile splitting stand.
Much more sturdy than the one I've been using. Got to use one of the two casters I've had for years. Now to finish the stand for the front end and use the other caster.

Folks,
I finished fabricating the front stand. If the stand does not look perpendicular to you, it isn't. The block is on an engine stand and is not mounted perfectly, so the stand is not straight up-and-down but will be when mounted on a Cub.

The word Exquisite doesn't do that stand justice Absolutely outstanding. I like it a lot.
Any chance you do up a How To on these two stands. They are sure to be a hot item to duplicate. Really top drawer

Rudi,
Thanks for the kind words. As for a How To, Gary's excellent How To http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=37936 is already in place. I just added casters and a front stand that bolts in the holes used by the starter. My attachments may be a bit more robust since I started with 3/8 X 4 flat stock. Besides, no pics, other than the two in this thread.

Re: Cub Splitting Stand - Front Stand Finished (update)
Great looking stand.
Just a safety comment would be this: verify that the caster is rated for the weight applied to it (i.e. should be rated for 1000 lbs minimum). I know the trailer jack I use is rated for that, but unless the rating is stated on the caster, if you're like me and have the part laying around for a while, I'd forget what the rating was. So, all I'm saying is that it would be good to ensure the rating of the caster for safety's sake. Secondly, the bolts and nuts would need to be grade 5 or better; again, a safety issue.
I like the way you welded the vertical plates to sit on top of the channel. It gives a better weight distribution from vertical plate to horizontal plate. The How To thread has the vertical plates welded to the ends of the channel, thus relying on the weld to structurally support the weight.
I like the mobility of your stand. Great job!

Great looking pair of stands, really like the adjustability.
Think they would really aid in allignment when reassembling.

That is one of the things that I meant. Exquisite ..
This jack .. does it have the mounting plate on both sides of the torque tube as Gary's does or is it single plate
Bill, you are right.. Gary's How To is pretty cool, I just like your mods to the original plan

Re: Cub Splitting Stand - Front Stand Finished (update)
Guys,
Thanks for your gracious comments.
Yes, I will be using grade 8 bolts to attach the stands.
The attachment plate was done that way just to see if I could do it.
The stand mounted to the torque tube is attached to both sides of the tube.
I've got one more stand that I want to build, so I will shoot some pics of the process and write it up.
