Super C carb question
I got ambitious today and started to rebuild the carb on my Super C. Everything went OK until I wanted to check the float level. All the service manuals I have talk about a Zenith or Marvel-Schebler carburetor. This Super C has a Carter UT carb. The parts list shows a Carter carb but it is not mentioned in the service literature.
Anyone have any specs on the Carter UT carb? Especially interested in the float level.

Re: Super C carb question
Vince,
I had the same problem, and couldn't find any parts to refurb it. I ended up putting a Zenith carb on it. Art C, I believe, may be able to help you. I think he has some information on the Carter UT's.

If you can find a Zenith, scrap the UT

Here is the one I bought for my Super A. It is also listed for the Super C. These are brand new and it worked great. Now they do have two listed for Super C, but I don't really know the difference between the two. I have bought 3 carbs from these guys and they ship fast.

Re: Super C carb question
OK I do see a difference between the two and it is the bolt spacing. If you do get a new one, be sure to measure the bolt spacing so you order the correct one. I did that on both the Super A and the Allis B.

Re: Super C carb question
http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carbsh ... Carter.htm They offer the UT carb manual for $25-. Ouch. Answer to the question is not worth the $25-. They do take phone calls - so they might answer your question(s). In any event, I have found carburetor kits from these folks that I couldn't find any place else.
I would set the float so that it's level. Then install a hose barb and clear plastic hose in an access point at or near the bottom of the bowl - use rubbing alcohol - check the height of the fluid in the bowl. Ball park figure 1/2" to 5/8" fluid level from top of bowl.
You will be able to use the idle jet and main jet adjusting screws to set up/regulate/control the carburetor.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Super C carb question
VinceD,
I have rebuilt all types of carburetors over the years and have never seen this general rule violated (as long as it is an American made carburetor).
Install the new float needle valve. Turn the airhorn (upper part of the carburetor that the float hangs from) upside-down. Hold the airhorn perfectly level. The seam on the float should be perfectly level also (parallel with the gasket surface on the airhorn). Adjust the little tang on the float to get the float parallel to the airhorn surface. Do NOT just bend the float assembly against the needle valve (you WILL damage the Vitron rubber surface on the needle) - take it apart to bend it !!!
If you are able to get the float level spec and adjust it to that spec - I'll bet you an electronic cup of coffee that the seam on the float ends up parallel to the airhorn gasket surface anyhow !!!
Good Luck, NJDale

I kinda missed this thread over the last little bit. Hope it isn't too late. I just redid Gord's Carter UT on his Super A. I have the kit that we got out of California as well as the instruction sheet. I will try to go have a look either later today down in the pole barn and then post it. Hopefully that will be useful.
Happy New Year to you and Annie from Em and I.

Surprisingly it was one of the easiest carb rebuilds I got into. Hardest was the Marvel Schleiber ... Let us know how you make out.
