My references contain only tractor information or is identified by the machine model number. I could only come up with the 15-30 McCormick-Deering tractor. Production 1921 to 1934. Nothing on the TC4 Power Unit.

Perhaps trying another approach. Part casting numbers. Engine or unit serial number. Photo perhaps would help. Or identification of the machine the unit came from.

Went over to the barn today. Found the engine tag. It is a D-40 6 cylinder power unit with Mag, starter and generator. It also has a crank and ther appears to be a double throated fuel tank so it may b a semi diesel, starting on gas and switching over to diesel. It has McCormick markings and on the block is a 'diamond international' brand like you see on old truck engines. She is a big beast. I couldn't read the HP on the tag.

Is it maybe a P-40, PA-40 or PD-40?
P-40 distilllate, start on gasoline, B&S 3 3/4 x 4 1/2
PA-40 gasoline, B&S 3 5/8 x 4 1/2
PD-40 Diesel, start on gasoline, don't have the b&s, displacement 460.7.

Could be a P-40 . It is in a dark barn pushed up tight to the wall and without a flash light it was hard to read. The serial number is PK02474 I think. How many horses would it put out on the belt ? Thanks... Jim I have seen you on here before.

The P-40 is also called a PK-40 in some references. P-40 serial number prefix is listed as PKC but again some references show PKE. My hunch is that you are looking at a P-40 and the serial number is PKC2474. They are listed as built from '34 through '39 although I don't find it in the '35 General Line Catalog. That catalog doesn't list any distillate engines. Except for running on distillate, the specs are very similar to the PA-50 listed there. Look at the page from WHS:

The P-40, running on distillate, was rated 58 hp at 1,800 rpm. This is essentially the same engine that was used in the W-40 tractor.

Thanks again for the excellent info. jim.
My engine looks much the same as illustrated but things seem to be reversed. The air breather is located on the back left corner of the engine, standing at the rear. The magnetto is on the left side and the carb and manifold, on the right all opposite to the pic. But the engine shown is very similar but for these differences. the TC4 info I got off a fellow on the yesterday site.

The pictures on that page are a P-12 and a P-20. The only relevant data was in the table at the bottom of the page. Here is the other power unit page from that catalog, with a picture of the reasonably similar PA-40. It is a closer visual match for your description.
