ruger 10 22

Postby Kevin » Fri Jul 10, 2009 4:10 pm

just picked up a Ruger 10 22 today for plinking.. got the black composite with stainless barrel. :{_}:

anyone have any really cool accesories for theirs i know there is just about anything you want to put on one?
I am considering a red dot scope for it as there is no black out like regular scope and they seem really quick only no magnification with those

picked up a box of 500 Remington rounds price is up there at $30 a box

will have to post a pick later

thanks

Kevin, I kept mine stock from the factory. I love the gun, mostly target practice with it. You are right , You can buy lots of aftermarket items that will fit on the Ruger 10-22. take care, and enjoy your gun. Jim

I have 2 one is original and the other has a synthetic stock with a target barrel, very accurate but need to use the good ammo.

Here is a link to a lot of accessories.
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SearchRe ... &q=10%2f22
As to the red dot scopes they are really handy and especially good for acquiring a target quickly, but the dot is so large that it is difficult to get real accuracy unless you sight it in so that the point of impact is just above the dot.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

what kind of 30 round clip do you use? does it get stuck? did you do any mods to the clip with a file to keep it from sticking?

i think my next gun will be a Ruger mini 14 , as its like a grown up version of the 10 22!!!!! :D

few weeks ago i purchased a Ruger Mark III 22/45 pistol think that is the neatest pistol i have so far :{_}:

i have a lot of fun plinking and small game hunting with the 22s 8)

Kevin, I've had 3 Mini 14's, accuracy was mediocre at best. I would suggest one from DPMS or Rock River, they are super accurate!
I do however highly recomend the 10-22, they are both accurate and reliable.

Lil' Red

I am looking at the Ruger mini 14 only because i'm a huge Ruger fan. I currently own a m77 rifle 300 cal., ruger p90 9mm, Mark III 22-45, and have been checking out the mini 14. Have read that the newest mini 14 versions have been upgraded that they are much better than previous models..

But my last visit to my favorite gun shop I seen the DPMS Panther arms AR-15 in 5.56x45mm only because if you buy it this way it'll shoot 223s but according to their website if you buy it as a 223 it won't shoot 5.56x45mm's (not sure why thought they were the same).. any how i am putting money down on the DPMS this week as i was really taken by the quality of gun it is and the price seems really good. The other cool thing is all the add-ons one can buy to make it like you want

also the thought of having a AR-15 makes me as happy as using any Cub!!!! :D

update to the Ruger 10/22 and Mark III pistol i have at least 300 rds through the pistol and at least 150 shots through the 10/22 and no jams in
either..just the way you come to expect from a great gun!!!!!! I put a 3x9 bushnell scope on rifle and ordered sights for the pistol
that are from Ruger w/fiber optic front sight (because i don't want it to be bulky with a scope or red dot).... can't wait till that comes in

will keep up the shooting and safely at that!!!!!!!!
thanks for the replies i think i like to talk guns as much as tractors!!!!!!!! :{_}: :(

I used to have a Ruger 10-77 (?) Its just like a 10-22 but in .22mag. I liked it but never shot it. I sold it to a buddy so I can always visit it. I still have my Ruger Single-Six. Its a single-action revolver with interchangeable cylinders for .22 and .22mag.

You should check out Wal-Mart because you can buy a 550 round of Federal 22 ammunition for $15. My 12yo son has a Ruger 10/22 and he has been known to go through one of those boxes in about 2 hours. He has gone through at least 10,000 rounds just this summer - After a year I am surprised the barrel still has any rifling left in it! At least it's cheaper than feeding his .410. :D

When the late Bill Ruger developed he hit upon a idea that is really close to the M 1 Carbine to a extent the 10/22 is lighting fast to handle and very accurate. I have 2 10/22s 2 Deluxe Models one from the Late 70s and one from the 90s.
The deluxe models have Walnut Stocks and great looking checkering. The I have a standard 10/22 also. All three guns have
scopes and nice Redfield Scope mounts. I don't believe in extra capacity magazines but i do have 6-8 10 shot Ruger rotary Magazines i carry a couple extras in my jacket pocket when i hunt. Last summer i went to the shooting range and took all of my 10/22s just to shoot a bit for fun. I was shooting off a bench rest and experminted with various brands of ammo i found that CCI Mini mags do very well at 50 yards. My oldest 10/22 shot 10 shot group at 50 yards that i coved with a dime. And the others done as well.

I love my 10/22s really well because they are well designed and add ons are almost limitless.
I have shot one of them that my friend has he a large diameter barrel on it and a super slick trigger
and a very good scope a Zeiss brand he shoots at 50 yards groups that you can cover with a pencil eraser.
One 10 shot group that i witnessed him shoot was just two oblong holes but all ten bullets went thru i counted them with a spotting scope.

I would laugh at my two buddies who have there 10/22's all tricked out. There were ahead of there time that was a few years back. I finally get it now with the higher ammo prices. I just ordered some 22lr and i'll dust off my 22lr guns soon.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
