700TH TRACTOR GETS rops

Postby beaconlight » Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:41 pm

It is not often that a tractor hits a milestone and comes away better for it. But that is the case with Dave Wilbur's IH 574 traqctor. Thanks to New York's rollover protection system or ROPS, rebate program, this 70s-era tractor owned by
Wilbur and wife Elaine became the 70th Empire State tractor to be Equipped with a ROPS.
The program plunks down %70 nof the cost up to a max of $765 to retrofit tractors.
For more details NY farmers may call 877-767-7748 or visit the NYCAMH exhibits at the upcoming New York Farm Show. February 25-27, 2010

I am not very familiar with the 574 model, but if they were not designed for a ROPS, that is a false sense of security.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

chowntractorparts.com/IH574.htm has a pic of one with a rops. Not sure if I would feel much safer with it though.

John I don't feel any ROPS is fool proof. If the State of NY is paying part I am confident that the manufacturer had to salute the installation or supply the ROPS. A ROPS is no good with out a seatbelt as we are both aware.

John i called the 877 number and the Lady "Mary" told me that not all tractors have a suitable ROPS. It can be OEM or after market. The IH 574 has one. She stated also that none exists for the cub or lowboy. When i asked about a JD 1050 she found it to cost with shipping from California to be a little over $1000 and with their $760 to cost me about $350. I have to check the woods trails to see if I can get through and perhaps get one. I do feel they provide false security. No need to feel you are the man of steel when you ain't.

Thanks for asking the question. I felt bad that I didn't think to ask it.

This is available for NY State residents only. You don't have to be a farmer to get help paying for the ROPS.
