Hello from White Marsh, Md.

Postby bumble » Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:20 pm

Hello all. I just wanted to introduce myself on here, as I am a brand new member. A friend of mine, and fellow member informed me of this community, and I had to check it out. Boy am I ever glad I did! I can honestly say that I am overwhelmed with the wealth of resources and knowledge here, and I am excited to start soaking it all in! About the tractor: It's a 1948 Farmall Cub, and it's life started with a company working on the roads, when my grandfather offered to buy it from the owner. My guess that was around 1950ish. My grandfather used it mostly around the farm, for gardening, and to do the "heavy lifting" around the house. Grandpa always took care of it, keeping it under the cover of the shed. As a kid, I was always facinated with the "big tractor" with the mysterious coffee can that sat overturned on the exhaust stack. I remember him saying that he left the muffler off because he, "liked the sound". The engine had apparently been gone over by him, and he owned it until his death in 1992. It now resides in Slippery Rock, Pa with my dad. The tractor's been through a lot, including a garage fire, after which it was rebuilt. I'll never forget the heartache I felt seeing the charred remains sitting in the yard. The engine's tired, as you really need to feather the clutch in 1st pulling the plow. I'm now 31 years old, and I'm hoping that one day, I'll pass that piece of family down to my son (should I have one). I have a lot to learn, but I know a lot of the basics of implement attachments and operation. (mom used to freak out when I told her all I did on the tractor during my days spent with grandpa!) I have plenty of questions, so brace yourselves!

Welcome to the forum. It's always great to here that a Cub is being handed down from one family member to another.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Bumble:

It really is something special to have a Cub with a close family connection. Not all of us are fortunate in that regard. Many have family connections of some type, but being a 3rd generation owner of the same Cub, well that is special. I am sure you are going to enjoy hanging around. This is literally the greatest community on the net.. bar none :!: Oh, remember Image we like em a lot :!: :D

One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.
