Model 122 engine installation in Model 72

Postby ly134 » Mon Dec 27, 2004 5:06 pm

I have acquired a 1966 model 72 with a K161S 7HP engine and a 1968 Model 122 with a K301AS 12 HP engine. Will the K301AS engine from the 122 replace the K161S engine in the Model 72.
The K161S engine is bad and I want to get the model 72 running again.
I am new to Cub Cadets and thanks before hand for your information. ly134

If you mean will it fit, the answer is yes. It is a bolt in swap, but the choke and throttle cable may have to be rearranged..

LY134...Why not rebuild (or have your K161 7 h.p. Kohler rebuilt) and keep it in your Model 72 :D . The 7 h.p. Kohler engine is extremely reliable...My Model 73, 7 h.p. Kohler K161 engine works like a champ :D ! There are plenty of folks here on this board to help you get it up and running...Just give us more information to go from  .

Hey Bud...The hardest part of having 2 Cub Cadets is trying to DRIVE BOTH OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME! But you've found the answer...Let your WIFE drive one!

I'm now in the process of trying to convince Carol Elizabeth to drive the "Model 73" in our next 4th. of July Parade...guess I've got ENOUGH TIME to work on that! :?

HAPPY NEW YEAR BUD!!! :D

Happy New Year to you, Country :!:

While my wife does like the cadet and the cubs, her choice would probably be the lawn tractor she rode as a small girl.......her grandfather's 1970 model 110. Her father gave it to use when we married. I used it for a couple of years, then did a frame-up restore on it. Now, our daughter rides it around the yard with me. It shares the grass cutting duties with the cadet and the lo-boy. 8)

C.B.,

Shame on you for showing that green thing! Now that you have broken the ice, here's my early original 110... original except for the fiberglass repair to the hood.

The temptation to make some modifications to those pictures with Paint Shop is very strong.

Green things are not ripe yet, and shouldn't be used :)
