Re: summer projects
here is the coop..ALL DONE!!
Let me make one pain full disclaimer here. This was my wifes and next door folks project. (I had to point that out after my wife saw this thread and gave me heck for a whole hour for claiming resposability for it. I hope I can have my eggs back now. )
and yes it already has the chick chicks!
The barn
And me doing the farmer thing!!

Re: summer projects
How big is that barn? You can never have enough garage/barn space. LOL! The garage that is attached to my house is a four car and it is packed full already. One hotrod, three motorcycles, two tractors, three ATVs, dirt bikes, mini bikes, go-carts, etc... I have been taking a bunch of my stuff and hiding it in the basement and my wife has finally drawn the line. My plans are to start construction on another garage next year, I am thinking a two car plus workshop.

Re: summer projects
My father in law will be living in the top quater loft. The Barn is 50x25 but it is very tall. I plan to have my cub hauler in there my two post lift my wifes truck my 48 chevy truck and my cub and my wrx or my brat in there as well. Pluss we will have a flap that hooks the dog run up to a warm room for the boxer pups so they can stay warm in the winter.
I am sorry your wife has drawn the line but mine wants me to get another cub. I personaly want a w-9 I saw one on the way back from WI and fell in love.

Re: summer projects
My attached garage is 28x38'... I need to build a 24x24' just for my toys and as a workshop.
Are you going to install huricane clips between the walls and trusses?
Looking good!

Re: summer projects
I am not quite sure what you mean by hurican clips. We dont get many huricanes in iowa The only extras I will be puting in is cove heating in the loft room and my two post car lift. I am not sure if I want to put cove heating in the main or put a pot belly stove in... We will see.

Re: summer projects
Grunt you got a lot going on. Looks good.
Tim it is an old timey thing from before refrigerators and freezers. At a point in time in the winter you salted, dried, peppered, root cellared or masked the rotten taste with a lot of spices. That is why grains were so popular, they store long time if kept dry. Spring houses were fed by namesake spring and kept things cool so they wouldn't spoil. In many parts of the country there were Ice houses. They were well insulated or thick walled into which blocks of ice cut from ponds and slow running creeks were stored for summer use. Usually vast amounts of saw dust were used to cover as insulation. Ice was shipped by rail and boat to the south. My mothers god father ran an ice house on Staten Island into the 1930's. He did coal and oil too. Eventually his stables were used for riding horses. The WPA built riding trails in Clove Lakes park during the depression. We called them horse path's. Any time a girl rode by while we were playing baseball, the shout would go out "Which one is the horse?" Eventually the price of Land got so high and maintaining a stable so arduous the land was sold for houses.

Re: summer projects
You've got a real nice looking barn. I'm sure you're happy to have it done before winter weather hits.

Re: summer projects
It has been interesting watching this progress. You have done an excellent job! I wish mine barn work was farther along. To me working on the barns are as much relaxing as working on the Cubs.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
