PTO rotation

Postby Ricaroo » Sat Aug 21, 2004 10:52 am

My cub is apx 40 miles away right now, and I would like to know if the pto operates in a counterclockwise or clockwise rotation and if I install the 90 degree belt pully attachment does the rotation change?. I have an early woods 42c deck that I am installing new blades on and I am trying to make sure what the roataion of the deck spindle is. The deck I bought did not have the blades installed on it when I got it.

The deck is at home and the cub is 40 mile away, or I would check it myself

Thanks
Rick

The PTO rotation is ccw. Can't help with the belt pulley question.

No------ the belt pulley gear box does not change the direction of rotation as viewed from the pulley side. Still CCW. Just think of it as running the cut off saw, with the blade teeth coming over the top of the blade as they enter the log thus forcing the log down and against the saw table.

If your deck has the standard over running clutch on it, it can only turn one way. It will ratchet if tuned the other way. The blades on all the 42c mowers I have seen install on a pivot, As long as you turn the raised edge up they will be correct.
If you are not part of the solution,

The deck does Not have the over running clutch. I would guess that if the pto turns ccw the deck spindle will turn ccw, as long as the belt is not crossed. Is this correct?
