I saw that some one mentioned a baler with a cub engine on it a couple of weeks ago. I think that I have the engine from one of them on a buzz saw that I bought about 10 years ago over in Penn Yan NY. It has a Mag on it and I need info because there was no spark on it 3 or 5 years ago and I did what I now know is foolish, by taking the mag off to look at it. Well as I say If I can't break it it can't be broke. When I get back up to town of Franklin in Deleware county NY I will try the clean the points and follow the timing TDC on #1 let click etc as I saw posted for A cub with a Mag. All I knew about Mags before I read some of the postings here, is that is how I learned to cuss listening to my grand father with the bilge pumps on his derrick and barges. Man he could make the air turn blue. Needless to say I had a low opinion of Mags ever since. Pop was GREAT.Of course this was during the late 1930's early 40's so may be there was no money for points etc. The salt air probably did not help either. Any way I will attempt to get it fixed. It was origionally crank from what the old farmer I bought it from said. He added a 6 volt starter. I don't remember if there is a generator, but that is a story for another day.
I'll have to learn about generators and regulators because my 12 volt early 60's Low Boy doesn't charge.

Welcome to the board! Go back to the home page of this site or to Rudi's manual page http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/index.html and start by reading the information from H.L. Chauvin. There is excellent information concering magnetos there. There are also other links from Rudi's page concerning mags. Mags can be a pain, but when they're working, you can't beat them. Dig in and have fun. We'll help with the questions - even if we're wrong sometimes.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that!

THANKS I have been doing that for a week or so because I had a bit of a problem registering and signing in. I have printed out enough of that info to fill a 3 inch binder.
