Touch-Control Rebuild

Postby Brockway » Wed Aug 04, 2004 12:55 am

I'm restoring my 57 cub.I have the engine block in shop for machine work. While machine work is being done,I'mworking my way through the rest of the tractor, transmission, final drives,P.T.O.,etc.I have a 52 cub parts tractor.I noticed the difference in part #'s on the touch-control housing betweenthe 57 and the 52.The internal differences are quiet clear in the service manual and parts book.the 52 parts # is-351981R1.The 57 parts # is 860719R1.I intend to rebuild one or the other. My question is,are there any advantages/disadvantages between the two?Is one stronger than the other?
Thanks,Brockway

Brock,

The only thing I can tell you for sure, having just rebuilt one, the 719R1 has less parts to keep track of. There are 13 ring seals to change out in there. The kit for either is available through Case/IH. Also, of the two you mention, the 719R1 is the newer model. I'm not sure about the power difference between the two, but I suspect they are the same.

Hey Brockway,
I see you're in Haughton. I'm through there all the time, I always stop at the Pilot travel center for coffee. You north or south of the interstate? I read you have a parts tractor. I've been looking around Monroe for one, but none to be found. Any for sale in your area?

A meeting of the minds

Hey guys,

I am in Shreveport and could use some parts and advice. What do you say we all meet up somewhere when "HR" is in town, have a beverage and talk about tractors and women.......... and other things we don't understand.

I'm up for that. One I could learn a lot, the other I gave up on. I'm just a "yes dear" kinda guy!

I've never directly compared the 2 myself, but what I understand from reading about them and from people that have both of them, the later one operates more smoothly, especially for small height adjustments.

You talking about the 2 versions of hydraulics or comparing tractors and women?
