New Wiring Harness

Postby Jason (IL) » Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:10 pm

I stopped by OEM's new store room in Chenoa IL today, since it is only 10 min from our dairy farm, and picked up a new wiring harnes for my Cub. I've had all kinds of electrical problems with this tractor for about two years now and with the tractor overcharging and ruining the batteries all the time I thought I would try a new harness. I cost me $75 for a complete harness, I think he called it an 8 wire harness. I didn't think that was too bad. From what I can tell it looks like original quality.

Beside the point, I got talking and he said they will have the Stainless Cub emblems that were on the 54-58 series shortly but they can get them right now if one would ask for 60 each. I told him I wait for a while since I have 4 complete sets waiting to go on and some extra that I have found.

I figure now that I have put this much money into this tractor after the wiring harness she should be show room quality beacause abour everything has been replaced. For a pretty penny too.

Ya all enjoy your cubs, I sure do.

Jason

I paid only about $40 and some change for a 7-wire from Carter & Greuenewald. Looked to be factory original from Case, et al.
Wonder why so much difference?

Case IH have cheapened up those few harness that are still avaliable by not putting loom on the head light cables as they exit the main loom.

These seeming small things do make a difference in the final cost.

Well, not being too familiar with a tractor wiring harness, should I not consider using the one from Case/ IH? C&G had several pages of wiring harnesses for Farmalls....4 or 5 harnesses for the cub. I'm missing a few feet of the looming, what other corners were cut to save $$$$?
I'm sure it isn't just a high mark up.

The wiring harness I bought is an 8 wire harness that includes a separate ground wire for the headlights. It is all wrapped up in nylon to look like the old ones also. I bought it because I wanted it now and every time I get something from My IH dealing I feel it is too much and I sometimes end up modifying it some to fit. Like, just the other day I need 3 new square headed rim bolts, I went to 3 different hardware stores in town here and neither one of them could find it in the book to order, so I called IH and they ordered them, but instead of getting 2 inch bolts they sent 3 inch bolt which in some ways is better for me cause I can put a lock washer on it since I keep loosing them when I'm mowing. Oh for the bolts, I ended up geting 8 it all cost me about $30. I thought that was bad.

I went through the OEM showroom and it is pretty impressive to see all the stuff that they make themselves. Like 90% of all things they sell are made in house.

Enjoy
Jason
