battery dimensions

Postby Matt Kirsch » Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:52 am

What size battery (12V) will fit in the standard battery box, and allow me to put the lid on? The cub I bought had some generic battery tray bolted to the platform and a Wal-Mart car battery.

The battery fits in the box, but it's TIGHT. It's too long to work with the "stock" 12V ground strap inside the box, and too tall to put the lid on the box.

Also, what are you using to replicate those rubber bumpers that are supposed to be glued to the lid so it doesn't short the battery?

The original was 9 1/8L 7 1/8W 9 3/8H. That's about as big as will fit.

Matt:

I will go down to the shop and measure the new battery boxes. I know they are higher to account for the new standard size for the Group 1 batteries.

As for the rubber bumpers, they are still available although I have yet to find the retainers. OEM or Steiner has the bumpers and I have had a number of retainers made. Email me if you are interested in the retainers.

Orrrrrrr, you can do what I did and use an old mouse pad. If I am not mistaken, I think BigDog had originally thought that one up  :D It sure works though :D

Hi All
I know it's not rubber, but a thin piece of formica was mentioned once, I think by Mr. Willer. The mouse pad sounds like a good idea. Paul K. in N.H.
