Overcharging?

Postby Scott Blystone » Mon Aug 02, 2004 8:20 am

My battery leaks out the top. Battery is new ( 6 mos.) and generator recently rebuilt. This is an original '49 CUB. I suspect the battery is overcharging. Is there a limiting mechanism in the charging system that I am lacking? I almost never run with lights and have the switch set to the low charge setting. I unhook the battery ground when tractor is not in use. Can anyone help me out here?

Your description sounds like it is overcharging. Does the H or L setting on the light switch make a difference in the charge rate on the ammeter? If so go to Walmart, or Autozone, etc. and get a small analog voltmeter. check the votage when charging. should be aobut 6 1/2 to 7 volts. If it is higher you may need to adjust the 3rd brush on the generator. For the instructions on that go to Rudi's manual server and read the service manual.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
