I know when I was bringing our Farmall C home the other day, My Mother clocked it at 15 mph, on the flat and going down hills at 25mph. for one reason, I push in the clutch down hills, lol.
Hope that helps.

Well that might be, but I was trying to get home as quick as I could, because the left front tire was so dry rotted that it was coming at part at the seams. and I don't have spares laying around.

And then there was the time the pizza guy asked the customer if he wanted it cut in 6 pieces or 8. The customer told him "Better cut it in 6, I don't think I can eat 8."

I have had a stomach stapling and can only eat a small amount, so Jim's joke made since to me, immediately. I believe that in addition to making a joke, he was trying to point out that the weight put on the tire as it rolled each round was as much or more of a hazard for it coming apart as the time, maybe more so as the speed increased.Cub 1948 wrote:What dose Pizza got to do with the speed of an Supper C?

Point he's making is the tire has to make the same number of revolutions to get you home whether you're going 10 mph or 60 mph.
Slower might have been better with a dry rotted tire.
The warning in the owners mannual NOT to engage the clutch when going down hill is because people have been seriously hurt doing it.

Ask me sometime what happens when you let the clutch back out after freewheeling down a hill and you find out your going 10 MPH faster than the tractor is geared for. Better bring an adult beverage or two. Anyhow, No matter how good you are it AINT a good idea. Grump

Well Sonny, My Tractors are not show tractors, there working tractors. I own a Lawn Care service. Besides why would I put the C on a trailer to go only 5 miles. That's why they have road gear. I've driven my 1948 Cub from my house to a Menanite chucrh for a tractor show/picnic, back in 2003 and that was 8 miles, all back roads. I also had a Model 22 mower on it too.
Back in 1991 I drove the C to Poughtown,Pa. for the 4Th July Fest. that was 7 miles. at 15 MPH. I got there on time too.

The tires were not in that bad of shape back in 1991. they only got that way from sitting out side over at a friends house for about 10 years. My Late Father loaned the tractor to him, See the C belong to my Father, But now he has past on I brought the C home. Because Ron was not using it any longer, He has far more IH's then I do. He has like 35 now.
