On my 56 cub I could never find out why it would start up good and run good then run bad. I did a bunch of tune ups didn't help and it was always burning through the gas.
well last night while going for a ride it was running sluggish in 3rd gear looked down noticed the choke lever out a little. pushed it in and it ran great then a little while later it was running sluggish looked down pushed in the choke cable ran great.
why is the the choke working its way out? This would also be the reason I am running though lots of gas.
any ideas on how to stop the choke lever from working its way out?
It almost looks like the choke clamp on the carb is slipping. I needto tighting that and maybe that will help keep it from wroking out.
any ideas out there?
Chad

I don't think you would notice a difference in the engine if the choke lever on the carb was slipping. It would just move the rod, but not the choke butterfly shaft. It sounds like the choke butterfly shaft is moving too easily. Maybe you need to rebuild it with new butterfly shaft seals to tighten things up. They come in the IH carb rebuild kit.

Here is a diagram from the parts catalog. The second page has some more part numbers on it.
