how does the steering shaft come out of the steering box located at the rad bolster .is it just remove the cover and spin it right out like a cub ? also can i remove the whole gov. housing with out losing timing or some thing .to make it easier to clean the motor .

Brian,
The steering shaft comes out the front by taking the cover and nut off you can easy remove the bearing by turning the shaft to push it out the front also.I've not had my cub steering apart. Yet

As far as the govenor I did remove it when I had a H to replace a leaking gasket. It didn't mess with the timing. I took the cover off the govenor looked at where the counter wieghts where ( up and down or left and right) when you pull it the wieghts will turn to unmesh (the gears are curved)from the other gears. Then going back together remember to alough for it to roll back to where the weights were befor taking it apart.

But I would say the safest way is to tear the front end apart to look at the gears. But I did it with no timing troubles maybe it was just luck.

BTW while your in the govenor if you replace the spring it will wake her up abit. I bought mine from TSC 'but i can't remeber if it was 1-2- rounds shorter or longer. Its been awhile. The first one I got it wouldn't ilde then the other one was just right. So buy both while your there

TJ's got you covered there. Case IH still carries the spring and its only about 6 buck. Good thing to replace as they wear and break. Can leave you stranded in the field real easy. Good preventive maintenance.

well i bought the 3 pt for the h . i got it on epay used ,i used the shipping calculater and it told me to a commercial address with a loading dock 151.00 and to my house it was 250 or so . so i sent it to my dads shop . i apid 380 plus 40 for palletizing .so all in all it was a decent price on something that i wanted . well the shipping co called and said they have my package freight collect ,i said no problem, they told me shipping cost was 767.oo now my 3 pt hitch cost as much as a new one plus a few hundred . i dont know what to do now . i am supposed to call the shipper back on mon and talk to the manager who was on vacation on fri. i tried contacting the seller and wont be able to talk to him till mon as well . if they dont see things my way i might have to cut my losses and run , not sure what else can be done , ebay probably wont do any thing even though it was technically mis represented . any ideas guys.

That hurts the pocket book

BTW Brian what kind of hyd pump do you have a belly pump or distributer?

belly pump , i think i will just leave it with the shipping co and buy a new one for 175 more than the cost of shipping .

I would definitely be talking to the seller. If he sells much, he has some leverage with the shipping company. If he ships at a cost way out of whack from what HIS shipping calculator says, I think he has a responsibility to resolve the problem.

i think he is at fault too but he said he had not put the shipping calc. on e pay , does it turn on automatically and u have to turn it off so it is not on there . i dont know i have never sold any thing on epay . i talked to the shipper and the seller , the shipper will not budge which is pretty stupid because he is gonna be stuck with a 3 pt hitch and nothing to use it on ha ha ha ha last laugh on them even though it is not the shippers fault and i blew the 420.00 on thin air .

OK, the shipping calculator he included is for "freightquote.com" which is a shipping service tied in to eBay. It appears that the seller did exactly what was promised for $40 -- "a local man will strap it to a pallet , load it on a freight truck and send it freight collect". Unfortunately, the local man evidently didn't take it to a truck lined up by freightquote.com . If he did, you need to resolve the problem with freightquote.com . If he did not, you need to resolve the problem with the seller. Including the freightquote.com shipping calculator pretty thoroughly implies that he will use freightquote.com or at least find a comparable shipping rate.

The seller has an eBay rating approaching 3,000 so he should know better than quote one shipper then ship by another.

How did you pay for it? Not sure you have much leverage on this whole deal, but what you have may depend on how you paid.

Yes, you can remove the entire governor assembly, housing and all, and you can then remove all of the individual components, do whatever you want, put it all back together and re-install on the tractor with no concerns what-so-ever about getting it out of time. The governor doesn't care. It is NOT timed to anything.

thanks Rusty farmall , i forgot all about that part of my orig. question ,considering all of the latest shinanagans . i will add that to the list of thing to be done on the h . i just got the broken studs drilled out of the rad and re tapped . and i finally got the seat bolts to budge so i could remove the whole seat assembely .
