 Well Ya`know, Curiosity does not always kilt the cat but sometimes it can sure cause one Big vet bill. SO, I think as long as it works well as is that I will stifle my curiousity and leave it as is. :P

as Jim Becker said, it's replacing the cutout with a blocking diode. a doide allows the generator to charge the battery with a .7 volt drop across the diode but will not allow the battery to drain through the generator under idle or off conditions. that diode needs to be preety large to handle 10 or so amps on 100% duty cycle.
iffn you are looking to make it correct, then removing it and using a regulator is the route.
you could probably call it an engineering prototype and sell it on eBay  :!:

Depending on the year he may need to get a cutout rather than a regulator and run the field wire to the light switch.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

JB,

Please cut it out and satisfy "OUR" curiousity..."A faint heart never won a fair lady". Besides if you mess it up someone here can fix it...

Maybe

J.B. - just ship that cub to central Ohio and I'll take a look at it for you! :)

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that!

:P B.D. Donny likes to drive them long trips so I will have him come and get it with his "NEW"-trailer and bring it to you as soon as he hits the left-coast again.

OK JB but Bigdog may have to find me somewhere in Texas.

I'm in a panic... :( :( I've got to find a place before June 8th and I'm stuck doing these jobs. I may be homeless on the 8th. OK for me but not the family.

I'd come and fix your Cub anytime :!: :!: If I can.
