J4 Mag problems

Postby D. Miller » Fri Apr 02, 2004 6:22 pm

My 48 Cub has a weak J4 mag,I have been told to add a ignition coil and use the mag as a distributor,I have also been told to replace the mag with a distributor,I am leaning towards the distributor if I can find one. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, you gots some choices to make. However, ifn it was me what I would do is just add the external coil. Make sure the internal coil is disconnected, and you are all done.

Why make more work than is necessary. That way, all you have to do is find a new internal coild for the J4 and you are back in business as an origianal again.

Oh, a 6 volt external coild costs all of about $12.00 Cdn, so I would imagine about $7.00 or $8.00 US.
