This shouldn't happen to a KID (PRAYERS URGENTLY NEEDED)
Hey all...
Some very very good friends of our family are in need of your prayers. Their 6 year old daughter, Kaitlyn is currently in Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN having undergone not one, but TWO open heart surgeries in the span of a week to repair a hole in one of her heart valves. She has had this defect since birth, and at that time the doctors told the parents that it was nothing and that it would heal itself as she grew. About two months ago when she was in for a routine "flu" visit to the doctor, he listened to her heart, and said that she had a "significant murmer" in her heart. Her parents said that they were told that she would probably always have a murmer and that they thought that it was normal. The doctor then told them that this was not normal, and that if not treated, Kaitlyn could have a stroke from blood clots pooling in this area of her heart.
Fast forward two months... Kaitlyn went to Mayo to have surgery, and all seemed to go well. As most 6-year olds do, Kaitlyn bounced back quickly after the first surgery and everyone thought she was out of the woods. In fact preparations were being made for her to come back to La Crosse. The day that they were supposed to go, the Dr. listened again to her heart, and ordered an immediate Echocardiogram. They found that the repair that they had made didn't take well, and Kaitlyn had to go in immediately for ANOTHER surgery. The poor girl was beside herself when she found out that she was NOT going home and that she would have to get stuck with all those needles yet AGAIN.
The second surgery went pretty well on Tuesday, but there have been many complications since that time. The is running a 103 fever, and her BP and heart rate are exceedingly high. They have her under a ton of medications which are seeming to help, but they think that she will probably be in ICU until at least Sunday and it will probably be another week before they will let her go home for good.
As a parent of a daughter that is the same age as Kaitlyn, I CANNOT IMAGINE what those two parents are going through right now... They are living at Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, MN, and are spending most of their waking hours at Kaitlyn's bedside...
PLEASE PLEASE pray for this family.... This should not happen to a little one or a parent of a little one like this. Please start the "prayer chains" at your churches and lift this family up!
Thank you for reading my little diatribe!

Mike,
Thank you for letting us know. I'll send a copy to some of my buddies and the request will get put on several prayer chains. Mine included for sure.

I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that!

Hey all... Here is an e-update on little Kaitlyn. The family is using a great website called "care pages" which allows friends and family to read updates and to post messages for the family periodically. They really appreciate all of the feedback and we their friends really appreciate all of the updates. Take a read!

Kaitlyn just fell asleep and its been a long morning. She has a very upset tummy and has been crying lots. Its so hard to comfort when there is nothing I can do. They gave her some medication to help with her nausousness and I think it might be working. At least she's resting.
There's not much new to report except that her fever is gone and they might take out one of her chest tubes today. Her Right lung is still pretty white on the chest x-ray, so I think they're waiting with that one until at least tomorrow.
The only problem with her being in the ICU is that she can't get up and walk around. What is nice though is that they have a nurse parked by her bed 24/7. Katie doesn't like when both Tony and I are gone, so we've been taking turns with everything so at least one of us are here.
She's doing OK with the BP meds...at least she can hold it down. While she's sleeping, her numbers are good, but as soon as someone comes in to listen to her heart or give her some meds, they go up. I honestly don't know soon until that's under control.
That's about it here. Please keep those prayers coming!
