Flip an A ring gear?

Postby barn_cub » Thu Mar 22, 2007 7:42 pm

When my B AC starter began to grind, I split the the tractor and flipped the ring gear. Can this be done on a 1951 SA?

The teeth aren't beveled on the back side, so it may not work that well. You would probably get better results by turning it 1/4 turn.

thanks Jim. Is the gear indexed at 90 degree intervals?

No, it can go on in any position. 1/4 turn will get the best part of the gear to generally stop at the starter.
