Horseradish

Postby Don McCombs » Fri Mar 17, 2006 4:44 pm

Does anyone on the board grow horseradish? I wasn't able to transplant mine when I moved in June  , and would like to establish some at my new location. If anyone is willing to send me a couple of roots or crowns, I'd be more than willing to cover the postage. :D

Oh, I have a great recipe for processing horseradish using a blender, if anyone wants it.

Farmer Seed and Nursery, 1706 Morrissey Drive, Bloomington, Illinois 61704 http://www.farmerSeed.com. has the best price on horseradish. 3 for $3.95, 6 for $6.95 and 12 for $12.95.

Gurney's and Henry Field's offeres hybred horseradish - more expensive.

Wife and I harvested and replanted all of our horseradish last fall. Please post your recipe for horseradish.

Don, I have quite a bit of the good stuff. As a matter of fact I need to weed a bit from my patch. It's growing all over the place and needs thinned out and put in rows. Do you ever get to Cumberland. I live north of there but work at an IH dealer about 5 miles north on 220. Just across the PA line. I could dig a bunch for you and you could pick it up or I'll mail ya some. Yer choice. Free if you pick up or pay only postage if I mail it. I scrape the roots (prefer smaller ones) and grind in meat grinder then put in blender with vinegar. Let me know. Dave

Don,
It was a pleasure meeting you. Did you get your new addition yet? Kinda wondering. If you need more horseradish just let me know. Anytime your around Wheelwrights feel free to stop in. No need to have to buy anything , it's just good to see a cubber once in a while. Take care. Grump!!!

Grump,

Yes, I closed the deal on Tuesday. I'll bring it home in a couple of weeks. Put the roots in the ground yesterday. Take care.

Don,

Take a look at this http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/champaign ... 01106.html for information on growing horseradish. Yeah, I know, I couldn't resist doing my Extension Agent thing.

Enjoy your horseradish.

John,

Hope you enjoyed your trip to the north. Hope you keep 531 from getting to wet! Bottom line is that most folks have forgotten about the natural process called shoreline erosion and the natural process often wins.

BTW, I used to teach in Warren at what was then called the Vocational School.

hi bill,
i live in lordstown near warren. did you teach at the tech school in champion? lol some people pay alot of money to live on the shore of lake erie and choose to ignore mother nature. i learned from this study that the souther shore of lake erie is sinking and the northern shore in canada is rising. cool stuff. i will be working alot more in astabula when i start my new job tues.
