Instructions:-
54 to 60 ounces of desired yarn.
Crochet Hook size K () or size needed to obtain gauge
1" diameter broomstick, dowel or giant knitting needle.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Finished size: Approx 60 X 48
Gauge: 2 1/2 sts=1"
NOTE: Broomstick crochet only uses one stitch that is worked with a crochet hook and a giant knitting needle, broomstick handle or broomstick needle that can be purchased or you can make your own. A dowel can also be purchased and cut to the length you wish and then one end sanded into a dull point. The broomstick will be held in the left hand (for right-handers) and the right hand (for left-handers). The size of the hook and broomstick, together with the number of loops being used, will determine the size of the stitch pattern.
Stitch Notes: Broomstick St (br st):
Step 1: At beg of row, remove hook from lp and draw it up and onto the broomstick end, insert hook in next st and draw up lp, remove it from hook and loop it over broomstick. Continue until all sts have lps drawn over broomstick.
Step 2: *Remove 4 lps from stick, YO and pull through, ch 1, 4 sc in loops.
Rep from * until all lps are removed.
AFGHAN:-
Foundation Row: Ch 125 (or any multiple of 4 plus 1 to obtain desired width). The multiple can be varied to make smaller or larger stitch patterns.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end (124 sc).
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, hdc in 1st sc and in each sc across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across.
Row 4: Do Step 1 of br st in each sc across. (124 lps)
Row 5: Do Step 2 of br st until all lps are removed. (31 loop groups).
Row 6: Sc in each sc across. (124 sc).
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, hdc in 1st sc and in each sc across.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st hdc and in each hdc across.
Repeat rows 4 through 8 until throw measures approx. 60" or desired length. Fasten off.
Loop Fringe Edging (Make 2): Ch 125.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across (124 sc). *Brace a 5" piece of cardboard (strip) behind the work with left hand, insert hook in next st, transfer strip to right hand and take yarn around strip front to back, draw up a lp, yo, draw yarn through 2 lps, rep from * to end of row, sliding lps off and moving strip forward as it becomes filled.
Sew a loop fringe edging to top and bottom of throw.
