can anyone tell me anything about this corn planter I bought? I was told it was an International corn planter, it seems to me that it was horse drawn and converted to a tow behind. any ideas of who made it and a model ?
thank you Jack

Re: corn planter
Yes, IH and horse drawn. Read the rest of his slowly because it is going to sound confusing.
The big fertilizer hopper must have been grafted on, probably not even IH. It appears that the angle iron frame around the outside is part of what was added for the hopper. It is mounted with some wooden pieces isn't it? If the frame is part of the original planter, I don't know what it is because it doesn't match up with anything I am familiar with.
Since it is a checkrow planter, I'd say it is a model 202 (built '46-'55). I assume the big spring above the hitch is connected to a big lever. This indicates it is equipped with an original IH tractor hitch attachment. In other words, this horse drawn planter was originally set up to be pulled by a tractor. There was a tractor drawn planter made at the same time. This isn't it.

I will have to go out and take a good look at how the hopper is mounted to the frame, I'm not sure if I will even use the fertilizer hopper or not.
I will let you know if you if it is mounted with the wooden pieces
thanks Jack

Re: corn planter
I'm convinced. Everything mounted with wood was added. The original unit is a 202.
You should be able to plant sunflower if you have the right plates. A lot of Richmond plates are fairly easy to find.
