601 Workmaster w/797 original hours
This Ford belonged(s) to a friend of mine. His grandpa bought it new at Davidson farm equipment in Thomasville, N.C. His grandpa passed away 15 years ago and he inherited it. He lives on a small lot and I told him I would keep the tractor for him. I use it to rake hay, move trailers, plow the garden, cut the garden etc. I have tried and tried to buy it and the last time I tried he said "why you want to pay for something you've have for 15 years?" He doesn't want to sell it cause it was his grandpa's. He knows I would never get rid of it I guess is why he just let me keep it. It currently has 797 original hours. I am pretty sure it has the original back tires on it as well. I have put 2 new rear rims on it and that is about it. It needs a good washing but all the original decals are still on it. Behind it is a Massey Ferguson #25 disc.

Nice tractor, I love it! Perhaps you will get to buy it some day.

I have tried and tried. Last time I ask him he said "why you want to pay for something you've had for 15 years?" I guess he just wants me to keep it, I don't know.

Nice tractor.
Curious what would you do with it if you "owned" it that you haven't done with it for the last fifteen years? I think your friend knows it has a good home but can't stand the thought of actually selling grandpa's tractor. If he sells it, even to you, another part of grandpa is gone.

I think you may be right. He knows I would never sell it. I have told him that as well, I told him I would love to buy it and if I ever did get rid of it I would sell it back to him for the same price. I have put two new rear wheels on it and keep the oil changed. The rear wheels were eat up around the valve stems and I put new tubes in and reloaded the tires with water and methanol. It really is a good looking tractor.

Hey Kirk - where did you get the seat cover? I want to get one, but I want to be sure to get one of good quality.

Re: 601 Workmaster w/797 original hours
I bought mine from Dennis Carpenter. I picked up this one and one for my gold demo at the ford/fordson show. I think they are a little cheaper at the show and you save the shipping. I've had one I bought from him in 2010 at the ford show for my 950 and it show no wear, maybe a little fade if you put the new one next to it, and I spent a lot of seat time on that tractor. I do keep my tractors tarpped when not in use so that may help but I've had other seats in the past that didn't last that long.

Thanks, But I think that your tractor, in original shape, is in great condition. Mine was rusting away in a barn for years before I got it and needed paint. Your tractor looks like all it needs is a good powerwashing and a coat of polish.
