Revered experts:
I have a little Rounder L600 skid loader with an Onan BF engine - runs fine for a while, then gets real bad - cough, misfire, no power, arcing at points, etc.
- Install new condenser [ now 'capacitor'] and runs like a champ. -
Why do I keep killing condensers?
Spring is coming to Indiana [for a day or two] We are now officially in the season of MUD!

Seems to be a problem that crosses many applications.
Here is someone that was determined to get to the bottom of it: http://www.nonlintec.com/sprite/cap_failure/

I didn't check the link that bob posted, but a few things come to mind. Wrong condenser, location, or bad connection, especially poor ground.

Try one of your used IH capacitors salvaged from previous tune ups.
Read the article posed by Bob. Very interesting.

Re: How come I asassinate condensers?
Bob, Thanks much for the link - very interesting - I am sending it on to the next generation so they have some greater understanding of "how things were'...
Eugene - I am pretty severely limited on the manner of attaching thecondenser [see the small rectangle box in pic #__72...[img]C:\Users\new 'puter 2013\Dropbox\Camera Uploads/img].
Of course, it is hidden down under stuff so I can see it, but actually getting to it is a process.
The first condenser lasted 30+/- years - I have gone thru several in the las many years. Makes the external U.S. made capacitor more inviting every time I think about having to change the "Made in China" 'modern' one.
The other off-the-wall thing they did, I like. They traded a spark distribution system for plug wires [which were gonna be there anyhoo,] They simply fire both plugs on every compression stroke! K.I.S.S!
[img]C:\Users\new%20'puter%202013\Dropbox\Camera%20Uploads[/img]
We'll see if I paid attention to the 'how to post pics' from Barnyard...
I am always pleased with the breadth of knowledge on FARMALLCUB.COM!

Larry you can't link photos directly from your machine like that. They need to be hosted online and then linked using the IMG tags.

Re: How come I asassinate condensers?
Short answer in attaching the condenser external to the distributor. Basically, in photo #3 above, the standard condenser lead is attached to one of the coil terminals and the condenser base is attached to a ground. Old condenser is removed.
Narrow framed Cub Cadet's condensers are attached in that manner. In the event the condenser fails, it's an easy replacement.
I have owned 4 or 5 or more narrow framed Cub Cadets for close to 40 years. I have had only one condenser fail.

As usual, I am learning stuff. Will I retain it? time will tell.
Now, I tried to post pics from drop box, obviously without success.
I have seen reference to a photo hosting part of Farmallcub.com [?] Is that a usable alternative?
How do I get there/
Thanx again to all you patient fellows.

Found this fairly logical conclusion, and a couple of suggestions.
