Tapered bushings and sheaves

Postby Roninpa » Wed Jan 14, 2015 6:54 pm

I bought an ih 284 with a L306H284-2 woods belly mower that is missing the drive pulley that goes on the pto. Woods lists pulley at $164.83 and the tapered bushing at 30.91. It is a p1 bushing and matching pulley. The p1 bushing has three 5/16" cap screws to tighten up the taper. I have found a pulley and matching bushing that are type H and use two i/4" cap screws. Does any one know whether the type H would hold up? These type H bushings have the 1 3/8 6 splines that fit the pto shaft and that is the hardest to find. By the way there is also a tapered bushing that will fit the cub pto and it is also a type H. These are made by browning. Thanks in advance for any help, Ron

As long as the aftermarket pulley is the same diameter and pitch/width and the assembly will fit without misalignment you should be OK. Just be sure the number of splines in the bushing will fit your PTO shaft. Browning is a well known brand name in the industrial sector and has been used for a long time and they are available in many different diameters and shaft sizes. They also made pulley/bushing assemblies that is/was used by Bush Hog and many others. Just my 2 cents worth. Stan
