What the heck is this thing?

So, this thing has been sitting at the main farm where I work for years. I've never been able to figure out what it is and what it was for. Its got double wide front tires and the rear wheels do the turning.

I've never heard of 'em. Interesting. I always wondered what this thing was. Looks to be in restorable condition too. Wonder if it could be fixed hah

Most likely used to pull a gang of reel mowers. Remember Arnold Palmer riding one in a commercial. Might be worth money to the right person. Something different to take to shows. You may not remember Worthington, but how about Jacobson mowers?

I would bet PUSH a gang of reel mowers with that hitch out front and the combine type rear steering to make really square/tight corners. You're not trying to mow the grass you just ran over with it out front. Could also be a wing gang on each side as well. Definitely a neat rig but finding all the mower parts maybe tough. Could turn it into a mini forklift

That looks like a Worthington/ Jacobson Model "F8" tractor. Front wheel drive, rear wheel steer golf course mower.

I would agree it's a Jacobsen F model. Jacobsen bought out worthington and were capitalizes of the worthington golf course fame name. When the square nose model F appeared they had just the Jacobsen name. They were full hydraulic to move the mower up and down. The engine was a ford industrial 134 or 172 But the F model probably had the 172. These engines were the same engines used in the hundred series and early thousand series tractors in the mid fifties to mid sixties. These engine made a good transplant for the ford tractor.
Here is my jacobsen G10. It has a 3pt hitch and pto. It is equipped with a 192 ford engine, ford truck 4 speed with granny low, and a 3/4 ton ford rear. It has the capability to move down the road at some scary speeds.

I asked my boss about it. He says some old golf course manager gave it to him after it was sitting broken down. My boss used it for parts on his Ford tractor.

I have a calender pix somewhere that shows a Dodge front clip short dog with the Worthington name on it.

Jacobson info: Its my understanding Jacobson purchased the Worthington company after Worthington died in 1941. All Worthington products that came off the assembly line presented the Worthington and Jacobson name all the way into the 70's. If you notice on the Worthington name is says a division of the Jacobson company. There should be a brass plate to the left of the steering wheel that shows the name Worthington, the model and the unit no.
The Arnold Palmer info: Arnold Palmer was contracted by Toro and Pinsoil to film a commercial featuring Pinsoil products setting on a Toro General were ever Palmer participated in the PGA tour in the us. That was in the 1980's.

I have both the Toro general and the Worthington/Jacobson F-8. And only recently gathered this information so my data may not be 100% but I am sure its very close.
