Got Walter the Gravely running

In between changing the clutch on the 53 Cub, I been playing with the Gravely....I left the electric fuel pump the PO had put on it as is, and changed the Igntion switch as the start position did not spin the tractor over....Still did not work so I thought maybe the switch was wired improperly....Trying to find a schematic for a 5660 seemed futile....I found several variations every where I looked so I winged it....Figuring the orange was the starter wire I checked it out and still no go...So I took a starter switch that( looks like the old dimmer switch ) and punched a hole in the dash and wired it to the solenoid and bingo, everything is working...I guess the tab that is on the solenoid that the orange wire hooks to is defective....Now would you believe the vendor I got the Ignition switch from on ebay, didn't send me the key....So I'm still starting it with a miniature screwdriver (the kind you work on ignition with)....Till I find a key...I turned him in to Pay Pal as he wouldn't respond to my emails and rather than send me a 35 cent key in a regular envelope, he chose to give me my money back...So I'm in search of a key...But the tractor runs pretty good....Now I just got to change all the gear fluids and I believe its good to go...It has the cultivator, snowblower, and bruhscutter...I'm rigging a way to add another 6/8 inches to the handle bars as I'm 6'4 and I'm really hunched over following the thing around... Dave

David:

A good locksmith should be able to cut a key for that real simple. Is there a part # on it ... that would help. They might actually have the pattern in the books. I have gotten a few keys that disappeared made to fit almost irreplaceable locks, so one of them can't be all that difficult.

Found a key at Jack's small engine on the internet....Had to pay shipping, but at least I can put my little screwdriver back in my toolbox  ...Thinking about adding a second set of handle bars 6/8 inches above the existing ones( I have a spare set)...And thus leaving controls on the lower set....(Bad back)....Any comments...or Laughter.... :thanx: Dave

The Gravely was not designed for taller people,---so ya!---make it fit you!---thats exactly what I would do!!!!---I never owned a gravely, but a guy up the road had a couple and loved them!---he even had a Rotary plow for one and a snowblower for the other! ---good machines! thanks; sonny
