Let's find out specifically what Kabota wants in the hydraulic system. I see some Kabota hydraulic oils with iso ve32 specification. Assumption on my part that is 32 weight oil which is common for some hydraulic systems.
Rudi wrote:Have you talked to a Kubota dealer at all? Might be worth a shot on the toll free if you don't have one close.
Yup. Good idea. Better to have the correct hydraulic fluid than to purchase and install 20 gallons of gear lub and find out that it's not correct. Then have to buy the correct fluid and dump the gear lube.

That is an old kubota, I would have to look it up, we use Kubota special hydraulic fluid in all the Kubotas at work, but yours may call for something different.

If you get a chance look up l175 and see what it says. I have a l175 and a l185 manual and that's what they say.
I've got a friend that's a ex kubota mechanic and he said that he thought they used he 80w90 back then. Mine is a l1500dt but they want talk to you about it because it was a import I have to tell them the American version l175. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.
Thanks guys for all the help

they call them grey kubotas I believe

They do. I had no idea when I bought it that it was a grey market nor had I ever heard of such. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known what I know now. The people it came from bought a new yanmar/cub and parked this one. They made me a good price for the tractor and equipment and the rest is history.

Okay, now to confuse the issue again.
I had done some googling on your
L1500DT and came across
OrangeTractorTalks and found that it is indeed one of the Grey Market models according to
TractorbyNet and the main market model equivalent is the
L175. So I googled
Kubota l175 hydraulic fluid and got even better results including this one -
Kubota fluid quandry?,
Seems we have the very same quandry when we are dealing with SAE90wt Gear Lube and of course
Hy-Tran or
Hy-Tran Ultra. Seems
Kubota UDT is what is recommended to replace/upgrade from SAE80Wt Gear Oil as spec'd in the older manuals. I would have thought that based on other hydraulic fluids that I use such as
CaseIH Akcela or
MF Permatran that
UDT would be quite expensive, so I googled the cost of
Kubota UDT and got some interesting hits. One of them is Hoober's and they are pretty reasonable.
Kubota UDT Universal Trans-Hydraulic Fluid - 5 Gallon
Part #: 70000-20005
• Multi-purpose all-weather tractor hydraulic fluid • Recommended for use in the hydraulic, final drive, transmi...
Price: $84.22
Kubota UDT Universal Trans-Hydraulic Fluid - Gallon
Part #: 70000-20001
• Multi-purpose all-weather tractor hydraulic fluid • Recommended for use in the hydraulic, final drive, transmi...
Price: $18.97
That is half the price of Hy-Tran Ultra ..... again I is
So since you already have what appears to be a Universal Hydraulic Fluid in your L1500DT currently, I would then say ... move over to the UDT. It will cost about $103.00 in UDT for your whole transmission/hydraulic system. That isn't a bad price at all especially considering the gain. You can also reduce that cost if you will by using say WallyWorld's house brand IF it meets the same specs. I would think it will considering it does meet the specs for MS1209 for our Cubs.
More stuff to think about ...
Has this been of any help?????

I've been pouring over orange tractor talks as well and I found a video you tube by a kubota service guy who said you can use 80w90 if you don't have a loader or if you live in warm climates. He recommended the udt if you did live in the colder climates and/or you had a loader.
YES IT WAS VERY HELPFUL. I asked and poured over the forum on O.T.T. and got some help but not the help and knowledge I've got on here.
thank you all very much
by the way I called kubota here in town and got "WE DIDN'T SELL KUBOTA'S BACK THEN REFER TO YOUR OWNERS MANUAL"

Glad we were of some help to you .... we do try. Part of who and what we are as a community/family.
I know what I would be doing with that Kubota Dealer -- staying as far away from them as possible. And I would probably find someone else to buy my hydro fluid from or 80w which ever you choose.
Let us know what route you choose to go. Oh yeah .. and even if it is late ..

Yup, the vid makes a lot of sense and validates everything I posted.
- You live in Georgia .. it ain't cold
- You don't appear to have a loader
- You didn't mention a 3 point hitch either -- although that isn't an issue as the loader is the big requirement.
Again you have choices. You can use SAE 80-90wt Gear Gear Lube/Hypoid Gear Oil or you can use even SuperTech from Wally World. I guess it just comes down to what's in your wallet
I don't believe I just said that
Let us know what route you choose to go.

Well here we go. I'm going to try the 80w90. I'll let you know how it works out.

I am really surprised that any hydraulic application would call for an 80/90 wt gear oil, obviously they have. Another note is that there is a huge difference in the weight between gear oil and universal hydraulic oil. They must have some fairly loose tolerances in that machine to be able to do that. I would think a comparison would be like trying to run gear oil on the crankcase.

Even though the guy in the video said it's ok, I'm with Boss on this one. Using gear oil for hydraulic oil is like fingernails on a chalk board to me.

what ever is in it now seems like it has a little moisture in it. It also seems a little thin because when I lift up the 4' bush hog it really whines bad. It doesn't have spin on filter it just has a screen filter in side the case. I'm going to make sure its clean and give it a try with the 80w I'll let you know next week. right now I've got a mystery hydraulic leak on my 185 I have to tend to. I may try to post a video or something after it's changed and I see how the whine is.

It had a little moisture in it but not bad. ( it had sat outside for 2yrs ) The internal screen was ok. I went with the 80w90 still whines on lift but seems to be working pretty good. I'll have to wait until the rain stops to give it a good work out.
