McD Lime spreader

Postby Atlantic Maritimer » Wed Dec 05, 2012 5:53 am

I have recently bought a lime spreader for spreading lime on my lawn and small field. I got it at an auction and brought it home. It was painted blue ,but was in really good shape. You could tell it was kept in the barn. After cleaning it up i seen the McD emblem stamped in it. So.... I was wondering if anyone know's the correct paint scheme for it? I was going to paint it all red exept inside the tank on top and rims. I was going to paint them silver. Now wondering if there wasn't any blue that was suposed to be on the gearing and chain. I did find a picture and manual for it from the small farmers Journal but it is in black and white.
Also, I don't suppose that there is any decals available for it? I checked with Binder Books but no listing.

Mike:

I searched the Wisconsin Historical Archives but my search didn't turn up a lot at the moment. I hope Jim who is more accomplished with those archives can find something for you. Any period -- ie 1900-1920 that this may have been made? Also, if you have black and whites of the decals it might be possible to have them made. Where did you find the manual? Got a link or is it a magazine you have?

There is some stuff in the paint decisions. The first is in decision #38. I need approximations of the model and age before looking. Pictures?

Hi Guy's. Here is a link to the web site for the Small farmers Journal. Let me know if you still can't get it.

It was probably all red except for the wheels. Early on, the wheels would have been cream. In '45 they changed to red, '47 to ocher, '49 back to cream. If there is a galvanized hopper (probably not) it would have probably been unpainted. Here is a pretty good example that is mostly right.
