Other machinery question

I'm still (or should I say Stihl) hoping to get this running.
I got the new carb the other day and got my machine back from the shop to try putting it on
Just put it on and tried.

Not even a burp to try to fire.

I have spark.

Getting gas. Spark plug was damp.

Tried factory settings on carb. 3/4 on each screw
Shop told me I have compression

Any one have ideas for this dumb old non-mechanic?

Probably need to resolve this soon since I only have a 14 day return

Remove spark plug. Turn engine over several times to clear air fuel mixture. Install new spark plug.

You have probably already done so.

Just thought of something else .
The primer bulb was removed a while back but it was still able to start.
I couldn't see any gas in the clear line from the tank to the carb
Took the tank off and the line at that end. No gas came out at first. Took the in tank filter off and blew the line out and got a little out.
The plug gets wet but I wonder if I'm getting enough gas

If it has been a while since it has run then replace the fuel line. You hardware store will have the line. Mine had become brittle over the years and developed a small crack letting air in. Once that was replaced it fired right up. No guarantee this will help yours but the line is cheap enough.

I am not familiar with that piece of equipment. A search for TK-10 found this.

I would also search the model number of the equipment and search the part number of the carburetor. I suspect that some carburetor would substitute and work well enough. But finding which one appears to be the problem.

Might also clean the screen in the muffler. They do plug up over time and cause starting and running problems.

One guy who worked on it a while back decided to take off the muffler.
I have one here to put on if I can get it working

Larry has the correct carburetor, it is the TK model that fits this saw, the old 4112 model. However as mentioned before the parts for the Stihl FS 80 and the FS 80AV and the other models similar are no longer made - these are the older ones that were built in the late 70's and 80's. The parts are simply NLA from dealers - even in Germany ---- btdt. Finding them on or possibly NOS in a dealership seem to be the only options. I have been searching for a couple years and still haven't found a whole lot.

The gas line has to be replaced - brittle isn't good. Looks like you may need the filter as well - scroll down the page and you will see the one for the FS 80 - Fuel line - Banta Saw - 120-295. You will also need the primer bulb and it has to be the one that fits the bracket. That is one of the things that is stopping me. I have a new bulb but the bracket that the bulb and the lines mount to is damaged and that part I haven't been able to find. Here is the bulb on STIHL Black Rubber Primer Bulb for Old Model FS80 FS90 I think I need to get my FS 80 AV down from the rack and spend a little bit of time with it.

I did some more research and I think you should download this file - stihl fs 80 (4112) Spare Parts List it is the spare parts list from Stihl itself. I downloaded it for myself .. and I think that it will be useful for our older saws.

Sent my kid to the auto parts store- $6 for that little hose!
He's bringing it out in the AM. Got a new plug for the AM,too.

Not sure why a previous mechanic removed the primer bulb. He removed the whole assembly as well as the muffler which worked loose since it was new

It has started since then without it but have to pull a little bit more.
With the original carb, I could get it to start and run for a couple mins.
With both replacement carbs, can't even get it to start or even try to start.

If I can find a filter, I'll replace it. Wonder if TS would have one.This one isn't very old. First one lasted, maybe, 25 years.

The guy took the whole primer assembly off so I need it.
I'm trying to figure out what I did when I switched from the original carb which would fire and start to the next two that won't even attempt to fire
Might I have installed the carb s wrong in some way?

Carb gasket. I'm using the original because that's all I have.
Think that could be it?

Can I use a Permatex?

Replaced the plug and a new line. No fire still.
Just in case I cn't find a filter real quick locally, would it hurt to take the old one off to try it if it's plugged?

They really look like common filters that you would find on the fuel line. Take it with you to your local small engine shop and they may have a temporary that can be installed on the line or even a close match. That would work. I imagine if the fuel is clean then the likelyhood of a problem starting it for a few minutes might be minimal. Sure would confirm the no start issue. Keep us posted ... oh and some pics of your Stihl would be nice.
