i was in a hurry earlier.

The model number works like this,
the first two digits (30) are the deck size 30 inch
The next two digits (08) is HP which is 8
The last digit (3) is the year. You have to know a little about Snappers to tell if it's 73,83,or 93.

When you order parts you need the series number. That is the last two digits of the seial number. Snapper only changed the series number when they made a parts change. In about 1990 Snapper started making so many changes they had to add a letter to the series number in indicate early, or late series.

When dad quit selling Snappers, they were up to series 21D. Made it impossible to stcok parts they changed way too often.

I'm sure that the original motor. replacement engines were 99% of the time painted Black. They were good mowers. 8hp is a little small for the 30 inch deck. I still have seven used ones left over from dad. Most are 28 inch. I have one 32 and a few 30's.

Some parts are hard to find for the old flat heads. The EPA wants to get rid of all those old motors.
