Gilles,
Joe suggests the following forum, similar to this one, if you are interested in acquiring a Mule.

http://www.willystech.com/parts/messages/25133.shtml Here is one needing an engine, but they are not that hard to find. Ted After looking at Don's link the engine might not be as easy to find as I thought

That prototype mule listed above is really very different from a regular production mule. Here is a link to more pictures:
http://new.photos.yahoo.com/jonharmone/album/576460762346510077
As far a finding an engine, who knows? Being a prototype, what kind did it have? If it was the same 4 cylinder engine used on the early mules, you can find them occasionally. I know it would not use the common two cylinder military standard engine found on later production mules.
For comparison, here are a few more pictures of a regular mule:

Also, here is a picture of a mule with a modification kit that uses wider tires and wheels. It is often referred to as a "sand mule".

Gilles:
In Montreal or Quebec, there is a pretty large group of Re-enactors. These are military/history buffs that re-enact great battles in history, everything from the Norman Invasion of Britain at 1066 - Battle of Hastings I think it was, to the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec with Wolfe and Montcalm, to the 1st and 2nd world wars ad nauseum.
They can actually get you in contact with the local restorers and collectors. I know for a fact that there are many in the area, as I have seen them over the past 30 years or so. They should be able to get you hooked up with some neat military stuff... to play with. Maybe even a half-track or so..
Also, visit the Government Surplus.. Crown Assets Disposal Corp .. it is a Federal or Crown Corporation that disposes of used Government stuff including Military Vehicles and such... the really old stuff well, you will have to go the Restorer and Collectors route.
Google it and restrict the search to Canada first. Then expand to include Canada and the US.....
I just Googled Military Vehicles and got...and many others....

Rudi,
Is that a Russki Sno-Cat?
There was a movie some years back where the Red Star was invading Alaska - Rock Hudson, if I remember correctly.
I am an old TC'er, we played with some strange stuff, including hovercraft, about jeep size. Then later, my brother worked on a R & D project of hovercraft that would haul a multi-ton load. They had a problem with slopes - allowed the air perssure to escape . You could traverse [rather calm] water, tho
We did not actually use the Mule, they were touted as an assist for the infantry, [again, if memory serves me.] A soldier could fold the steering column forward and down, so that you could present a very small target in combat situations. Reassuring NOT Supposedly could bring your Mule along whilst crawling along on your belly
We took our two youngest back to Ft. Eustis, VA where a lot of that R & D was/is done. Thirty years later the stuff we used every day was in the museum Can't have been that long
Try this for some more funky military R & D -

We did play with some snorkel stuff, but not that one.
Ahh the memories...

One of the few advantages of growing older is that I finally realized that I haven't made ALL the stupid mistakes! Yet!

Actually it is a T-24 Weasel from the US Army in WWII. It apparently was outfitted with brackets so that it could be carried by a Lancaster Bomber. Either British or Canadian I would expect, and I would be pretty certain that the test regimen was conducted up here in conjunction with the RCAF, RCEME, RCA and the US Forces at the time.
I would also assume that the Russian Sno-Cat that you are referring to that was pictured in the movie with Rock Hudson, was probably a Weasel, as very little Soviet equipment was available to Hollywood at the time, seeing as right after WWII we were into the Cold War and the USSR was pretty Western-phobic..
I found the info in the eBay link...
