Filling hydraulic jack

Postby Dave F » Sat Jan 27, 2007 10:20 am

Can anybody give me any advice on how to fill a hydraulic floor jack. This is just a basic floor jack with a plug to remove to add oil. I thought it was getting a little low on oil so I pulled the plug out and actually lost oil out of it. After playing around trying to add oil and bleed air out of it its actually worse now than when I started. Any ideas?

Dave: I assume it's an alligator floor jack. if so, release the pressure valve and put the handle in the upright position. I just did mine and it seems to work OK. Craig

Just tried that and lost a lot of fluid when removing the plug. The only way I've been able to get anywhere with it is buy raising the jack by hand, removing the plug and slowing pumping the handle with the valve opened while filling. Still isnt really working correct.

Hi Dave I had problems with mine too. I started pouring the fluid in and had my brother slowly pull up on the front of the jack while standing on the front wheels to keep it from tiping up.

Some jacks have two holes. Did you fill the right hole :?:
With piston extended out I remaove the fill plug then slowly put the oile in till it runs out the hole put plug back in then see if it works.
