economy tractor

Postby prjones » Fri Jan 26, 2007 9:58 pm

Can anyone give me any info on economy tractors, Friend of a friend has one forsale. All I know now is that it is orange, running and has 4 or 5 implements including snow plow, sickle mower etc. 600.00 this seems cheap. but I do not have any room inside.

No listing for Economy Tractors in the "Standard Catalog of Farm Tractors".

Web search came up with several tractors named economy from different manufacturers including Sears.

The Sears Economy came out in 1938 and looks something like an unstyled Farmall powered by a rebuilt model A Ford engine.

If you can obtain the manufacturer and serial number, a search of the web will/should provide more information.

Grab it, unless it is totally junked. they are good tractors, formerly sold as Power King. close to a cub's capability, but not quiet as heavily built.

Like John said, "buy it!" The last one I saw at auction sold for $1400.00 with three or four attachments. But it was in very good condition.

I own a Economy tractor they were made by Engineering Products Co in Waukesha, Wisconsin I have a cycle bar mower, cultivator, breking plow, snow blade, and a snow blower for mine. My tractor is a 14 HP Kohler engine. I like the tractor very well, not as good as my Cubs.
They have two three speed Trans one in front of the other which gives you lots of different speeds and power. I have a parts book and pwners manual if you decide to buy it.

I believe the second tranny was an option, and will not be found on all of them.

John
That is true about the two transmissions. I was at an indoor show in Murray, KY a couple os weekend's ago, and there were 3 Power king Economy's there, 2 with 2 transmissions, and 1 with a single transmissions. I lost a slow race to one of them with 2 tramsmissions, and I was using a Cub Cadet 100 with a creeper gear - some wag said it was about like watching paint dry

that is very true on the double transmissions and also folks that pull these little tractors say the PK with dual trans is hard to beat. The little tractors was made from 1946 until it went into foreclosure in 2000 Another interesting thing is the company contracted with IH for Cub Farmall rear wheels it uses the same wheel wieghts as my Cub

Grab it. If you don't want it, I'll take it. Seriously. I have been looking for one for a friend. I can come pick it up.

I have my grandpa's Power King/Economy tractor he bought in the 70s. I think it's a model 1614, don't remember for sure. They are great little tractors. Well built and very fuel efficient.
Thanks,
Joe
