96 Chevy

Postby jostev » Wed Jan 03, 2007 1:25 pm

I know this is probably a long shot, but does anybody have a plow setup on a 96 series Chevy 2500 :?: we got a plow setup from a friend with most everything there, but we have to no clue what it was off of, and we have fabricated everything, but we/I was just wondering where the hydro pump is mounted? we have an idea, but it's kinda a dumb place..

Thanks for any help/pics/advice

Johnny

I took this snowplow off of a ‘95 or ‘96 2500 and put it on this truck about a year ago. It’s in for transmission work this week and I took some pictures so hopefully it will help. The truck the plow is on now, is a ‘06 2500 which is the same as a ’96 2500. The only difference is; I had to cut away the air dam to make room for the plow frame to attach to the frame horns. Notice how I mounted the plow supports to the engine support frame. I welded, bolted and mounted a stop on the topside; because the owner said on the other truck the bolts would shear off. The plow make is a Western.

I assume that the pump you are trying to mount is the belt driven version. G.M. had many configurations. One the v8s some wre mounted on the intake manifold, some piggyback on the alternator bracket. I adapted one once by finding the power steering pump bracket in the bone yard for the opposite side of the engine as the one on the truck. It don"t have to be pretty just functional. G.M. had more configurations than anybody. If all else fails get an electric unit out of the boneyard.

Johnny I forgot to mention previously If your gm has a serpentine belt, I think you may be out of luck. I have never seen an aftermarket serpentine belt setup. Everything was electric over hydraulic. Sorry hope I'm wrong. :( Frank

My Fisher V belt hydro pump on Ford with serpintine belt was driven by an addittional V pulley attached to the serpantine pulley at the crank, the plow was bought new and installed at the dealer.

Joestev, if you have a Fisher plow go to there web site they have all sorts of info, parts breakdowns , schmatics its all there easy to find......

thanks guys, and yes, i forgot to mention that it IS a V-belt driven, my dad bought a v-belt pulley that mounted on the crank pulley, adn the truck DOES have the serpintine belt setup...

thanks Jackman, that helped with the mountin of the frame a lot

Frank, I might ment ion that to my dad this afternoon, we might just go to a junkyard and look for an electric one, because there's not too much room inside the engine compartment, where we are thinkin of mounting it now.

the plow is a Meyers, and I'v looked at some stuff, but all I can find it electric/hydro, not much or anything for a V-belt driven pump... i guess it's too old or somthin

Thanks for the help

Johnny

Johnny If you look at Jack Fowlers pics. of his pump. Those wre designed to fit in the space once occupied by the piston. All plow mfg.s make a version of that pump. If you find one in the boneyard make sure you get the wire harness and the In Cab control. The hydraulic pressures on all of them are similar. The only big difference I can recall is older Meyers units the polarity on the solenoids was reversed. Good Luck Frank

Thanks Steve, I checked, and saw alot of good stuff, but not too much to do with what I need... not too much for the pumps

Thanks

Johnny
