leaf blower

Postby farmall man » Mon Nov 06, 2006 9:58 pm

My neighbor couldnt get his leaf blower started so i said id look at it. It will start and run for about 3 sec and then stall out. Its got air spark and gas so i dont know what it could be. I was wondering if he could have accedently put regular gas in it instead of 2-cycle. I havent asked him yet but would it run like that with regular gas? thanks

Check the color of the fuel, usually the mixed oil/gas has a color tint to it.

I had a similar problem with mine today, although a bit different. It starts right up and runs fine at idle, but immediately cuts out when I move the throttle to full speed. If I choke it I can bring it to full speed, and then once turning I can open the choke. I changed the fuel with fresh, but no improvement.

On mine, the fuel intake tube ends in a filter that sits on the bottom of the tank. Going to pull the fuel intake and replace/clean that filter. Perhaps I'm just not drawing enough fuel due to restriction, water, etc. Enough gets thru to idle, but not enough for anything more. Perhaps you might be experiencing something similar. Good Luck

If it is more than a couple of years old, there is a good chance that the fuel line has a hole or crack in it somewhere, or the primer button has a hole or crack in it. It runs at first, then starts sucking air and dies. Those little engines don't use much fuel, so a little 1/8" crack in a fuel line will cause those symptoms.

my leaf blower was doing that exact same thing, so my exboyfriend put a carb kit in it and now it runs great. maybe you could try doing that. :)

John Brings up a good point
When I use to use 2 cycle mowers landscaping the 2 cycle mowers would get carbon deposit lodged in the spark plug causing it to short we called them boingers
Take the plug out and check for anything in the contacts
