Massey Harris Pony popularity increasing?

Postby pgmrdan » Mon Apr 24, 2006 3:48 pm

It seems like there are more posts recently about the Massey Harris Pony. Maybe it's my imagination.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of mine.

Dan:

Very nice Pony. Massey-Harris was years ahead of anybody else in designing nice looking tractors. I guess Minneapolis Moline were also avante garde..

I just never have been able to quite get into the M-H Line, even though it truly was a Canadian tractor...

 :?

Well Rudi, I don't know how far you live from Des Moines, IA but if you're not too far and happen to know of some implements available for an MH Pony you should send me an email. You'll have a better chance of seeing implements for this tractor up in Canada than I will down here.

I'm having a diffidult time of it. Perhaps I should convert some old horse drawn equipment to attach to the drawbar. :)

Dan:

I actually have a single bottom plow for the M-H Pony sitting beside my 193 and 189...

Massey equipment is quite plentiful here... I almost bought a M-H Manure spreader cause I had almost given up hope of finding a McCormick-Deering 100 (which I actually found and is waiting for me to pick up -- has been since my heart attack...)

Unfortunately.. I am a Loooooooooog long way from Des Moines Iowa.. almost as far as you can get and still be on the same continent...

but my best friend's brother-in-law's family actually own a Tractor Salvage Yard out in Saskatchewan, and apparently Massey Harris is still quite available in the prairies..

It might be worthwhile to have a look there.

There is a link somewhere in my favourites for an on-line parts yard listing for Canada and the US.. if I can find it, I will post it..

I hope that helps a little bit....

I also have a Massey Harris Pony carb -- a Marvel Schleiber ?? it is on Granny.. some day when I git around to it, I am going to put Jethro's carb on Granny, and then maybe see what I can do with the Pony Carb...

Thanks Rudi! I look forward to seeing the link.

I did find a sickle-bar mower in Canada but it was near the east coast and shipping was estimated at around $500, if I remember correctly. Needless to say, that killed that idea.

I've grown rather fond of the little Pony and would like to put her to work. She starts and runs great and is in good shape. She may have more years left in her than I do.

I had a few people make comments indicating that I had a screw loose when they found out I bought her. They seemed to think I should have bought something big, green, and yellow (this is JD country, of course).

For my purposes the little girl will do just fine IF I can find a few implements.

Thanks again,
Dan

Keep your eyes open - you'll come across parts where you least expect to see them.

My sources of MH parts and pieces have been eBay and local collectors/traders/fabricators at the bigger shows where MH is the featured tractor. But I did locate my brake ratchet at Chown's Tractor Parts in NB at the NE Cubfest 2 years ago.

Yup, Carl sure did....

And David and Alton ship stateside all the time. If you are looking for something, David and his Dad can usually find it..

You can find more info on their homepage - Chown Tractor Parts

Looks like they just got another Pony in :!:  :!:

Thanks for the plug guys! :D We do handle quite a few Ponys and have a few implements, but unfortunately, as Dan mentioned, shipping is prohibitive!!
