Any body here familiar with massy ferguson tractors?

Postby Bill ryan 4 » Thu Mar 30, 2006 9:11 pm

I have a massy furguson 1020 tractor, and it was left in the rain this
winter and now the clutch is frozen up! Duz any body know how to
break it loose short of splitting the tractor again, it has a new clutch
in it, Thanks Bill.

Work it hard with the clutch pedal in may help.
A lot of farmers in the cement mining area of eastern PA keep all their Equipment in a shed because of thimgs like that. Long story about a GM truck left for storage at a farm north of Allentown Pa for 6 months. Just kept driving hiorsing it into first , just used engine timing for the higher gears. Drove it 300 miles back to the owner and never did break loose.

Bill,

This is a too common problem!

1. Take it to your back lane, or somewhere you have plenty of clear, safe space. (I used my front lane)
2. Hold or block the clutch pedal down.
3. Put it in your lowest gear and start it.
4. Work it through the gears up to your road gear. (it will grind a bit)
5. When you are up to high speed... stand on the brake pedals with all your weight.
6. You may have to do it more than once, but it worked for me the first time.
7. From now on, you might consider blocking the pedal down, especially if it will be stored a while.

I do not know about "loosing the clutch." But I did manage to knock off the oil filter twice on a 255 massy :!: Let me tell you its hard to depress the clutch with hot engine oil spraying on it :!: :!: :!: The first time I was pushing bush with the end loader and a three inch inch branch went under the bucket curled up and hit the filter. The second time I was going to push over a tree I went over a stump and when the tire went down a hole on the other side the filter ended up sitting on the stump :!:
