Rim lock for Allis Chalmers motor grader

Postby Slim140 » Thu Dec 08, 2016 10:46 am

Anybody ever try to find a rim lock for an Allis Chalmers motor grader? I'm not sure which one it is but it looks like either a 45, D or Speed Patrol from pictures I looked up on the interweb. I'm not familiar with the A.C. stuff. I have a friend restoring one and he has looked and looked and brought me 2, one off the grader and one someone gave him. He ask me to convert the one to look like the one he needs, simple enough right? Wrong. Here is the one he needs on the right and the other on the left. It isn't tall enough, the hole is bigger and it just won't work.

Well I got to thinking about it and the only way to do it is start from scratch.

Not to bad, had to do a lot with the hand grinder after milling it out but I think it will work. Took me about 2 hours, glad he only needed one.

When you say "the only way to do it is start from scratch," I know the results will be outstanding. You didn't let me down.

About 10 or 15 years ago I need some rim locks for a WD Allis Chalmers. I found some from the Allis dealer is Maryville, Missouri.

Either $35 or $45's each.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Did it have spin out wheels or rim locks like these? He took this one to Portland and couldn't find one, I was his last resort.

Spin out rims/wheels.

Only suggesting that some Allis Chalmers parts are hard to find and expensive.

For sure Eugene, the A.C. stuff is harder to find and more expensive. Probably why we don't own any A.C. stuff, I thought Deere was expensive

Several years back there were Allis and IH road graders setting in the weeds. Also a lot of Allis tractors. Most have disappeared. Guessing most went to the scrap metal dealers when scrap metal hit $200- a ton.

I would say your right about that along with a lot of other "junk" we call farm equipment.
