Plow Day, Treloar, Mo, November 4, 2017

Postby T-Mo » Fri Oct 27, 2017 5:53 am

Plow day event is scheduled for November 4, in Treloar, Missouri, just west of Marthasville, Missouri. 10 am start time. We usually have a field for the GTs and another field for the bigger tractors.

Ought to be some nice bottom ground to plow there, not like my clay and rock.

We have several plow days there. It's Missouri River bottom land, so it's good plowing, if the ground isn't too wet. Last year, it was a bit wet from some rains days before and there were some traction problems, plus the wet dirt tends to stick to the plow a bit more.

I probably take my Wheel Horse 416-8 with a 10 inch Brinly. If I had a plow for my Cub, I might take it instead.

Should be the last batch.

There were a lot of John Deeres, Allis Chalmers, as well as Farmalls. In the garden tractor, there were mostly John Deeres and Cub Cadets, and of course, my Wheel Horse 416-8. It was a great day to plow, the fields were just about right, and the weather was great. Free barbeque hamburgers and brats, as well as soda and chips. The fields were bean fields, so plowing was better than if they were corn fields. I wish I could have brought my '47 Cub, but I don't have a plow yet, so I brought the Wheel Horse.

It looks like everyone had a great time, but I can't say this would make it in a safety poster.

The camera/smart phone is fast enough the tractor looks stationary, but if you enlarge the picture above you can see the trees in the background are blurred by the heat coming out the exhaust, It would have to be pulling to produce that much heat.

Great post and great pictures. Most plow days around here are in the spring. The only fall plow day I've attended or remember being in this area was the North Central Indiana Meet & Greet in Leesburg, Indiana put on by your Wheelhorse brethren, Red Square. It was all garden tractors. There was a post on Craigslist mentioning the event, which was back in 2015. I responded to the ad contacting Scott Mehlburg to ask about the event. He invited me to come and bring a GT even if it wasn't a Wheelhorse. He hoped to have nearly 100 tractors at the show. It was a cold and somewhat damp day but it was a great show and myself and a buddy that went with me had a great time. I even won some merchandise in the raffle they held to raise money for a local charity. Below is a link to pictures some pictures I took and a video of the event. I'd like to put on something like this once I retire in a few years.

There's a nice plow day coming up in Conetoe, NC (Pronounced Cuh--KNEE--Duh, near Rocky Mount) in January. Not many that early around here but it's a nice wintertime break.

Yes, this was an action shot. The plow they were pulling was the rope pull type, so the guy in the green shirt would pull the rope at the end of the run. You can see the rope in this picture, which btw, is an action shot also.

I know of Scott and his Meet and Greets. Unfortunately, last year's (2016) was the last one he hosted. He won't be doing them anymore. Scott was a moderator on Red Square until a couple of years ago when he decided he didn't have the time to do the job adequately.

There was a plow day for GTs just a couple of weeks ago in Wisconsin that was held by another Red Square member:

There are plow days in just about every part of the midwest, northeast, and southeast. There is a big one held in the spring in Pennsylvania every year. There are a fall and spring plow day in Alabama. There are some in Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, New York, etc. They're usually posted on The IHCC site and WFM John Deere site.

From someone who spent many hours pulling a #8 Little Genius behind a Farmall H in rocky ground. If you want a thrill, be pulling on that trip rope when the plow hits a rock and the trip releases. You would be amazed how far your arm will stretch before you manage to turn loose of that rope. Of course if you do not have a good grip on the steering wheel with the other hand you lean backwards a long ways. :x
