Mid Maine CubFest July 9th, 2016

Postby Our Pass Thyme » Sat Mar 19, 2016 2:55 pm

First (Annual?) Mid Maine CubFest Tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 9th. :tractor:
Forecast is for Sunny and Dry conditions with warm temps for this 2nd weekend in July.
Bring yourself, -selves, and your tractor(s) if you so desire for an informal fest with a mid afternoon lunch/dinner. The Agenda will be determined by the attendees and could feature small projects, discussions, demonstrations, perhaps a parade around the "block" (about 4 miles) if there are enough Cubs in attendance. I am open to suggestions as this is not only the first time I have hosted a fest, but it will also be the first one I have attended. I don't have an extensive shop, my wife only lets me have half the 2 car garage where my cubs reside. My official 'workshop' is in the cellar and the door is only 48 inches wide.
I hope you can attend!

About us: :hattip:

We are located in an agricultural area known locally as "Little Aroostook" where commercial potato and corn fields abound. We operate a roadside self-serve farm stand and sell mainly vegetables. We (me, my wife Stephany, 12 year old daughter Riley, 10 year old son Ricky) have lived here since 2002 and have been "growing" ever since. During the growing season, there are sometimes more tractors on our road than regular vehicular traffic.

Nearby amenities include a grocery/gas/Dunkin-Donuts; Advanced Auto Parts, Countryside Restaurant, That Pizza Place, Exeter Corner Store, Perkco Feed and Seed and Hardware; Crescent Lumber.

Within 25 miles is everything else, including major motels, hotels, bed and breakfasts, all the major restaurants and some local favorites, Big box stores, gas stations, camp grounds, etc. The major nearby towns include Bangor, Brewer, Dover-Foxcroft, Newport, Palmyra.

Directions: :lost:
Option 1) Easy to find if you have GPS - punch in 2516 Exeter Rd, Exeter ME.

Option 2) Coming from the South get on I-95 head North to the first Newport exit, head North out of town on Route 7 to Corinna, take the second right after the bridge turning onto Route 11/43 (careful there are two rights next to one another), Route 11/43 goes right by my home on the left about 18 total miles from I-95.

Option 3) From the North, travel to Route 15 and turn West on 11/43 at the double blinking lights in Corinth, travel 3.5 miles on the right.

Already there.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

Special Note: The more interest - the less "tentative".
I have sent a personal invite to my friends at TM Tractors and am waiting for a response.
I really am looking forward to my first CubFest!
Thanks for the support and interest.

Tom,

Looks like a good bit of fun. It is a bit far - 13 to 13.5 hour drive - for a one day event. If it was a two day CubFest, it would get some serious consideration on my part.

Good luck.

Thanks Bill,
I hope to have a longer event next year depending on how this one goes. I may yet be convinced to extend this one? I just don't like to build too big too fast.

Since we attend only two long drive (12-18 hour) Cubfests each year, I know this one would be too far for us. I can understand your concern on whether to have a one day or two day event, Many first time CubFests draw six. maybe eight people. That is great for a first time. My first Cubfest was scheduled to be a two day thing. We were lucky and had 25 people show up. Don't be afraid to extend it, you may be surprised like I was. Like George Willer used to say, "Plan it and let the guest decide what they want", or something to that effect. The main thing is you want to give it a shot. It may grow into being a "Must do" as time goes by.

I'll be coming. Rob has offered me an empty horse stall, to spend the night, so we can get an early start, in the morning.
