2014 Tolland County 4H Fair - Lawn & Garden Tractor Pull

Postby Peter Person » Mon Aug 11, 2014 5:20 pm

Well...he finally did it. :applause:
After finishing 2nd in 2012 and 2013, Aron put together the winning tractor for 2014.

He made a full pull at 4,700 lbs and then decided to go for broke. We put on all 36 blocks to get to 5,600 lbs. About 24" on the 1st try, nothing on the 2nd, and another 11" on the last attempt.
New club record! :{_}:

Congratulations!

Should have brought it to the Cub Tug!

Do tell more about the gearing, what combo besides the loboy finals?

Thanks for sharing,
David

David,
The decision to use the LoBoy finals came about at CubFest Northeast last October after much discussion around the donut table with Cecil and Scot.
He kicked around the idea of doing a double transmission but that wouldn't change anything. Here's his post on that idea Twin tranny puller

Had he put more weight on the front weight rack after pulling 4,700 lbs easily, I think he would have made a full pull without any problems. His wheelie bars prevented him from really digging in.

He had a lot of fun with this project and has put down the challenge to the younger club members to come up with their own ideas.

The top speed on this tractor is less than 1 mph even in 3rd gear due to the gear reduction in front of the transmission and the loboy finals.

Great! Enjoyed it. I agree, more weight on front. Really neat machine!
