National AnthemI'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, feel free to move it if not, but I just want to do an informal poll. This morning my Debbie and I went to the Trumbull County Engine Clubs annual show, and about 10 minutes after arriving, they opened the show with the National Anthem. I was happy to notice everyone in site stopping to face the Flag and the men I saw all removed their caps. My question is this: Am I the only person who gets a lump in their throat and a tear in their eye during this song? When I listen to the words and reflect on the circumstances under which it was written, and all that Flag (our country) have been through, and the men and women who have given so much to defend it and us, I can't help but get choked up. In a nutshell, I guess I just am wondering if I'm a nutcase or dying breed. Thanks for giving me the pedestal, and a big THANK YOU to the Vets on the forum. John
Re: National AnthemI believe you are spot on NORMAL. Anyone not like you, should possibly move to..well, anywhere outside our borders and change their citizenship.

Re: National AnthemNo, you are not alone. And it irks me something fierce, when I see kids, and some adults, who have no clue about the proper respect that should be shown to our flag and anthem.

Re: National AnthemI agree with all of the comments, and yes I am deeply moved whenever I hear the National Anthem.

Re: National AnthemThanks guys. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. One event I look forward to every year is the parachute flag drop at the Geauga County Fair. There is a group called the Federal Rebels who perform Civil War (War of Northern Aggression to the southern boys). For the flag drop, they play BATTLE CRY OF FREEDOM (Rally round the flag) in front of the Grandstand. Old Glory floating to earth with them and half the crowd singing is a sight to behold. John
Re: National AnthemDay is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake, From the skies. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, May the soldier or sailor, God keep. On the land or the deep, Safe in sleep. Love, good night, Must thou go, When the day, And the night Need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all To their rest. Fades the light; And afar Goeth day, And the stars Shineth bright, Fare thee well; Day has gone, Night is on. Thanks and praise, For our days, 'Neath the sun, Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky, As we go, This we know, God is nigh. IN GOD WE TRUST

Re: National AnthemI try to make the annual Defenders Day here at Fort McHenry. Reenactment of the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Great program and when they read Francis Scott Key's poem "Defence of Fort McHenry" (National Anthem) it is moving. And after the mock bombardment when the huge period garrison flag is raised, anyone that doesnt get the lump when they see the flag or hear the National Anthem ever again needs their pulse checked.

Re: National AnthemWhere ever I go with my '50 demonstrator, "Frosty" I get the comment, "how patrotic", because it is Red, White, & Blue. Sorry I don't know how to post a picture. The Red & white of course is the standard color and I added a Blue #22 mower. I explain that it was not intended to be that way, however, I am certainly glad
