HADLEY - Thousands of visitors are expected at the third annual antique tractor show on Sunday, the same day as Hadley's Memorial Day parade.

Last year, an estimated 4,000 people came to the free event and enjoyed seeing about 100 antique tractors and talking to their owners, said organizer Laurie Cuevas. At least as many are expected this year if the weather's good, she said.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Young Men's Club at 138 East St.

The popularity of the show is due to the number of people "trying to get back in touch with their roots," Cuevas said.

"There's a push for local food, and people are just getting more in touch with where we started," she said. "These tractors come out of the woodwork. They're beautiful, and you can't believe they've been hidden away in people's barns."

The free show is a benefit for the Hampshire and Berkshire 4-H clubs. Some youngsters will be showing their cows, said Cuevas, a 4-H leader.

There will also be a farmers market, petting zoo, pony rides, duck races and horse-drawn wagon rides provided by Muddy Brook Farm in Amherst.

A new feature this year will be live music. Nick Brady will play his acoustic guitar, and there will be rock music from Misty Blues and Rock Station. The Peter Pan Futureliner, a restored bus, will be there and provide the stage for the music, Cuevas said.

The only concern of the organizers is that if it's a good day for haying, some of the tractors may be pressed into duty in the fields, she said.

The crowd at the show will tend to peak before and after the Memorial Day parade, which will start at 2 p.m.

The parade is sponsored by the Hadley American Legion Post 271. The formation will start at 1 p.m. at the Legion at 162 Russell St.

The parade will begin with a flag raising at the American Legion post. The parade will proceed down Route 9 and around the West Street common to the General Hooker Monument for a closing ceremony.

Sorry I missed you Gary, I left to head to the annual parade and services at the town cemetaries. The show has grown and the folks organizing it do a great job, hopefully it will get bigger every year and maybe add a day. Some of those tractors were out in the fields working the day before.
