Plow Day in Northeast PA at Foxy Farms, Birchardville PA
Ok folks a date has been set ! May 14th - 15th
The farm is a mile outside of tiny Birchardville PA (about ½ hour South of Binghamton, NY or about an hour North of Scranton, PA). On Route 267. We’re located at the crossroads of 4 dirt roads Birchardville Hill, Griffis Hill, Ridge, and Klimas Roads. Address is 3147 Griffis Hill Road Montrose PA though I highly doubt your GPS will correctly find us. They took away our old Rural Route addresses and we got 911 addresses last year...so roads renamed and numbered etc...general mayhem in the name of progress. I will be highly surprised if you will get any cell phone service anywhere on the farm, so plan accordingly. I will put up signs to follow. I will also post more detailed directions to the farm at a later date.
Anna and I would like to get an idea of how many people are coming so we can plan accordingly: port-a-potty rental, food etc. So if you think you are coming please let us know as soon as possible !
If you have campers or tents you are welcome to stay over. You may also come Friday if you wish and staying past Sunday shouldn't be any problem either.
There will be opportunities to:
-Flail mow
-Plow
-Disk
-Harrow
-Broadcast seed
-Build some raised beds
-Have a great time
There is potential for A LOT of plowing to be done. An 8 acre and a 3 acre field plowed for contour farming . The remainder would be conventional: Two 1 acre fields, and 4 acre field about a mile down the road. All will be turning over hay sod that has been in sod for atleast 20 years.
Possibilities for discing or spring tooth roughing up in process of pasture renovation as well.
I have the following that can be used:
193 plow that can be used if someone had a depth lever, dogbone and eyebolt.
1 spring tooth harrow
1 tandem disk
If you have an old Oliver and want to bring that your welcome to do that as well though I don’t have any plows that would work on them… though we have 5 Ollies on the farm.
Also there are a lot of antique shops and stuff in nearby historic Montrose, PA as well for those interested in that. There are nice Bed and Breakfasts in the area.
There would be room for about 3 to 4 Cubs to be worked on under roof. My tool supply is limited though I do have compressed air and a good welder.
