Pump in a Pail

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Pump in a Pail

Postby PVF1799 » Fri Sep 11, 2015 6:02 am

Hi all. On the farm we need to supply fresh water to animals that are too far from the barns for hoses. We use solar powered electric fence chargers in these areas to keep livestock in and predators out. I came up with this idea for supplying the pig field drinkers and the Plasson Automatic Watering Bells for the pasture raised turkeys. We power these directly from the batteries used to run the electric fence chargers. Our remote water supply is a 250 Gallon IBC Food Grade Tote. I've installed Cam-Lick quick-connect fittings to a food grade garden hose. Lastly -in the bottom of the bucket are 3 1/2" diameter holes covered with screening to let water out of there's a leak in the system.

Parts:
1. 12v Demand Water Pump - 3GPM, like the kind used in all RV's
2. New White Bucket and Screw on water tight lid from Home Depot
3. Some PEX
4. Waterproof toggle switch
5. Inline 10amp knife fuse
6. Battery Clips and some wire.
7. Inline screen filter.

These are working really well for us so wanted to share.

Ken:

I like that solution... very neat and waterproof. Gotta keep that in mind :-)
