This was on the local news in the fall of 2007. Wanted to share this great project - this was at the very early stages of my sons timber-framing business.

Rudi - wanted to see some building pix. Just getting around to doing that....Interesting little story. This barn was razed when Dad was 10. He saved the original hinges....They stayed in the farmhouse basement for 80 years, until is grandson installed them again - where they were originally in 1799.

das ist eine schön scheune .. that is a very nice barn :big smile:

I am impressed. Those are the same techniques my Dad taught me to use in the old style post and beam framing. To see a new barn done in the old style is really nice. Tim is a real craftsman .. to even want to do it the old way today requires a fair amount of determination and of course pride in one's work. You and your Dad must be some proud. I know I would be. Another wonderful saga in the over 200 year history of your family's farm. Wow :!:

So I must ask .. did Tim place the tannenbaum ... fir or pine tree atop the ridge when the rafters were all done? That is a very old German custom and one I am sure occurred back in 1799.

The tannenbaum was placed on the last rafter when it was raised.

It stayed there till the roof went on.
